Cost Savings thoughts from Members

Stop sending School Department administrators to conferences out of town. These conferences are nothing more paid vacations.

Eliminate all professional development consultants.

Eliminate the NELMS conference this year.

Eliminate all clubs & intramurals.

Eliminate sports at everything but the high school.

Eliminate the drop out prevention “specialists”- which work can be done by the attendance officers.

Why aren’t we using the Sheriff’s Dept. for inmate labor-it costs nothing?

Why not offer early retirement?

Why does the Superintendent need two “administrative
assistants”? All superintendents prior to Mike Longo had one.

Dennis, Heather, Mary Lou - why can’t they share a secretary or two for the three of them?

Are all non-union employees being asked for the same cut?
(Superintendent included?)

Why do any of the Directors need secretaries? (Fine Arts-too)
Get them all voice mail. Remember none of them deal with
parents or kids and their teachers are assigned to schools all
day.

People who get a pay cut, spend less money to help the overall economy, both locally and nationally, while people who retire actually spend more (travel, movies, concerts, going out to eat, etc.), which is all taxable income!

Does the Mayor realize that for people who plan to retire this year or the next 2 years that a cut would be a "life time" sacrifice for them and not just a short term help to their City, because their retirement is based on the "top 3 highest paying years" rule???

Many of us are apprehensive with regards to a reduction of our net pay - the NBEA has worked so hard for our annual raises - we would retreat "years" back if this proposed cut occurs - for those looking forward to retirement, this is a real blow -

Why not tap the $14 million in the Cities stabilization fund?

Dr. Bonner was asked to take a pay cut. She said, "No."

Don't believe me? Ask any school committee member.

Remember, she's not here for the children. She's here for the "MONEY."

Cut all non-union jobs...do not fill any positions that do not have dircet contact with the children...Nanopoulos did it by himself... didn't need a business manager.. and by the way, why does Larry Oliviera need 2 secretaries? Dr. Sousa doesn't even have 1...2 secretaries for Dr. Bonner? come off it

To DS Softball33 Mr. Nanopoulos did not have to deal with the DOE. Some one has,as long as I can remember, had the job of business manager if not the title. If I remember correctly Longo started with two secretaries. As someone else said lets make sure we have the correct facts, that is after all what professioals do.
