I was at the meeting and in my opinion Portia Bonner lost control of herself, again.

Copy and paste the link into your browser. Then read about her tactics in Hamden Ct.

Listen. All the community experts and non school people had informed Bonner that there was some huge political hold on the schools and she would have to break it. This is why she is always on the attack, stating that every disagreement is about the political group stopping her reform. It's a complete fantasy. It's a game between a superintendent and a school committee who could not answer a 10 part multiple choice quiz on teaching as it actually exists in the modern public school.

I think we need to chnge the city charter as it pertains to the election of school committee members. They should be required to have been employed within the school department in some role ( teacher, para, dept head, administrator) before being able to run. Some of then have absolutely no clue what is going on in our schools- or even the community for that matter. Come and substitute teach for a week or two- anonymously- and see what we battle day in and day out. For that matter, the commissioner of education and Governor Patrick should do the same... private schools have the luxury of selection. Discipline problems are sent back to public schools.

Class sizes at some of the schools top over 34 students in a classroom. I would love to have the school committe members come to these classrooms and try teaching these children. Lets see how long they last. I agree with the last post, school committe members should have had some role in the school systems. Maybe that way, they would know whats going on.
