Race to The Top Update 1_13_2010_2:35 p.m.

Dear Members,

I am writing to you today on behalf of the New Bedford Educators Association Board of Directors.

The NBEA Board of Directors will be meeting this afternoon with Mayor Lang at his request. This is an emergency meeting that we have convened in order to discuss his request that we reconsider our participation in the Race To The Top Grant.

As you know, participation in the Grant could mean millions of dollars in funds to the New Bedford Public Schools over the next four years; however, we will not compromise our core principles. Rest assured we will not sign any agreement unless our members’ collective bargaining rights are protected and we have written assurances that we will have the ability to withdraw from this process at any time.

We will keep you updated following today’s meeting.
