Is there anyone left at that paper who is not a part timer hoping to get picked by the Herald, or a close to retirement columnist angry that their 401k is not as good as public pensions?

There are classrooms in NB in which not one single child was proficient on the 2010 MCAS. Parents of children in those classrooms deserve a choice. New Bedford has many extraordinary teachers, but it has its fair share of awful ones too. Students should not be condemned to attend failing schools. If the district cannot ensure them a quality education, then someone else must be allowed to try.

Try? By short changing in dollars and students those remaining in the public system? Alma del mar will not necessarily serve those students you speak of. Serious discussions of Ed reform have moved way past the notion that magical "choice" will boost student progress. Other charters have not been outpacing public schools. This is a TFA franchising gimmick.
