This group will compare our students to Charter Schools and Vocational Schools, but forget to mention that when those children in the Charter and Vocational schools are not performing well academically or behaving appropriately, they are returned to the public school system- conveniently after monies are allocated by the State in October. Public Schools are asked to do more with less every day – and we do it.

To me, if this group truly were about helping our children, they would embrace solutions and not place blame.

If you research a little into the background of this “roundtable”, they are a group of business people, philanthropists, and self proclaimed social reformists who will hold a hand out for any and all grant monies that trickle anywhere near the Southcoast, proclaiming they have the solution to our educational problems. With all the collective degrees amongst them, they have not asked for the advice or input of the teachers in New Bedford Public Schools.

This group points the finger of blame at teachers for student failure, but they do not look to why that may be. Do they realize that teachers do not choose the administration that dictate policy in their building? Do they realize teachers do not have much or any control over the curriculum they are being told to use? Do they realize the number of students who choose not to come to school, or choose not to come to class, or choose not to be attentive- rather disruptive- each day?

Don't forget the UIA. They are part of this anti-teacher group.

Marlene Pollock is another teacher basher. Put her on the list!

What are they going to do with the incompetent administrators that continue to bully teachers? Oh, let's ignore that fact.
