Jack Lavimento says there were 600 hundred people at the action and wbsm says 300. What am I missing?

Didn't the school committee just close a small school because of a budget shortfall?

Are these pilot schools just another way to break the union?

Now, the UIA is writing school committee policies which means we don't need the school committee anymore. This is perfect!

"The schools would have 200 to 450 students. Proponents say the plan differs from charter schools, and it would not add to the school system's overall budget." I find the previous statement to be highly suspect.

If the UIA supports teachers as they say they do, why they still part of the roundtable?

I wonder if the members of the UIA would like us to gather a group to offer solutions to the problems each of their church congregations are facing. Would they be as eager to accept those recommendations?

Imitation may be the highest form of flattery, but is always a cheap version of the original.

The ideas from Brocktonizing NBHS and these Boston innovation schools take note - what worked there will not necessarily fit here.

Speaking on innovation schools, didn't we just go through this disaster with the Leadership Academy at NBHS? We saw what a brainchild was developed there thanks to Dennis Winn and his merry little band of cronies!

I bet Darcy Fernandes has created those while she was in Brockton, like she has done so much else! We should get her to spearhead these innovation schools! Imagine what those schools would look like!!

I also wonder where they propose to get the money for such an endeavor.

The "Brockton Model" is a practical approach to the problems we face in the district. It involves some things that are going to cause unpopular numbers in the beginning and people need to be willing to accept that.

I think we should come up with and articulate our own ideas and not wait to be blown by the winds of interest groups. Ideas should include all students, be contract and budget neutral and involve heavy lifting by all involved with less administrative brainchilds.

I would like to know why the New Bedford Public School budget is spending 5million on financing "Charter Schools" who pick and choose their students. Charter schools seem to take our best students and return the children who are difficult. Why can't these "schools" finance themselves? 5 million dollars spent on schools who can't seem to handle every child. GIVE ME A BREAK!

I find the school committee out of touch and bascially useless!

They can seem to find the money for this so called pilot school but cannot pay their teachers what they deserve! All I can say is the teachers should receive their step raises. Fools!

Apparently the UIA and the Roundtable is on to something. Come on, they have a great idea! I think NB has an issue with crime which impacts all of New Bedford. Lets get together and come up with a plan as to how to improve puplic safety in New Bedford, but remember not to include the police in the plan! Reason number 2 for early retirement!

Too bad 600 people don't show up for Open House, answer the phone when school calls, come to school when their kids screw up, or get their kids to school!
