My colleagues in the NBPS are some of the best I have worked with anywhere! I have also worked in two local suburban districts. We are lucky to have quality teachers because most administrators and the public don't support us.
Ms. Coelho is pandering to the newspaper, the UIA, and the Education Roundtable. I hope all friends of New Bedford's educators remember this at the ballot box!
This story is difficult to believe to say the least. I am also from a Portuguese immigrant background and I am a product of the NBPS system. I may have had a couple of lousy teachers over the years but to say that I didn't have a single good experience would be a blatant lie. On the contrary, many of my teachers inspired me and looked out for me. My adolescence was scarred by family alcoholism and abuse and it was actually NBHS’s amazing teachers, guidance and administration that saved me. As a matter of fact, if it was not for them, I would have dropped out and probably have done far worse to myself. During a time in my life when I had absolutely no one I could count on, they were there to not only support me but instill in me the importance of my education and how integral it was for me to achieve a better life, which I did. I also attended college almost a decade after I graduated from high school and I graduated from there with high honors (despite several lousy professors which you will always encounter no matter where you go), so I think that really says something about the education I received from New Bedford. I owe every ounce of self-esteem I have to the great teachers of New Bedford Public Schools and I am quite proud to be a product of their system. We are not perfect--no one is, but most of us do our damnedest to do the very best we can by our students and to portray anything less is insulting and defamatory to our integrity and character. Thank you Ms. Coelho for helping me decide who to vote this November......your opponent. I'll be sure to advise everyone I know as well.

It sounds like she made the whole thing up.
I find her comments hard to believe.
Not one good teacher in all her years as a student? Who is she kidding? Is this a cry for a pity vote?
Debora Coelho, you should be ashamed of yourself for writing this trash.
I'll never vote for Debora Coelho
again. It's obvious she pandering to the anti-union group, United Interfaith Action and Jack Lavimento.
Hey Coelho, where's Ken Hartnet?
Like others, I find all this hard to believe.

That woman has insulted every teacher in New Bedford. What could possibly be her motive?
