PARKER STREET WASTE SITE ASSESSMENT & CLEANUP ACTIVITIES

The City of New Bedford anticipates the following activities related to environmental investigations and cleanup at the Parker Street Waste site for the week of August 21-27, 2011. Dates of performance of these activities may vary depending on factors such as staff, contractor availability, and weather.

· New Bedford High School: The Department of Public Infrastructure expects to continue with soil excavation activities as described in the Release Abatement Measure (RAM) Plan Modification: Soil Excavation and Removal (July 2011); DPI may work 7am – 7pm Monday - Saturday. The City’s contractor expects to continue transporting soil from the temporary stockpile area at the Shawmut Avenue Transfer Station for off-site disposal. The City’s consultant will be on site to provide oversight and dust monitoring when any soil activities take place.

Contractors will be onsite to continue removal of PCB Bulk Product Wastes and PCB Remediation Wastes (i.e., fluorescent light ballasts and paint) as described in the Removal and Abatement Plan: NBHS Building Interior PCB Removal and Abatement Plan dated March 2011. Contractors may work Sunday (8/21) and Saturday (8/27) in addition to the normal work week. The City’s consultant will be on site during removal and abatement activities to provide oversight and environmental monitoring.

The City’s consultant will collect air samples from various locations in the four Houses next week for polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) analysis. The City’s consultant will also be collecting groundwater samples from groundwater monitoring wells in and around the Mechanical Room.

· Keith Middle School: The City’s consultant will collect indoor air and vent stack air samples and will conduct a cap inspection as required by the Long-Term Monitoring and Maintenance Implementation Plan.

· The City of New Bedford does not anticipate any site activities related to environmental investigations and cleanup at the Nemasket Street Lots or the Ruggles & Greenwood Street Neighborhood.
