Response From Tom Davis - Chairman of the Board of Directors, Global Learning Charter School/President of the Industrial Foundation

Carol ,

While I was rushed into making my comments at the Forum and may have used the wrong choice of words , I did not intend to or make any negative comments about Mary Lou Francis at the Forum on Thursday .

I merely reiterated my suggestions for further improving the schools which I made : at the Standard Times Forum in the Fall ; at a number of private and group meetings with Mary Lou ; in several op-ed letters to the Standard - Times ; and in a private letter to Mary Lou several weeks ago .

Also, I fully agree with your proposals to eliminate block scheduling, change the design of the report card to make it more understandable to parents and to work towards making New Bedford High School one of the "Best High Schools " in  SouthEastern Massachusetts.

Also, there were a number of good suggestions at the Forum for eliminating bullying and disruptive behavior in the schools .

Lastly , I 100 % agree with your statement that New Bedford was a great school system and if everyone is committed , we can achieve that distinction again .

Thus , I look forward to working with Mary Lou , You & Others to do my little part to help make this happen . Cheers ! -
Tom

You know what? I hope this letter is sincere, and that Tom Davis is really showing the respect to New Bedford Public Schools that we so heartedly deserve!

Dear Mr Davis,

What schools did you "make" in New Bedford?

When you speak about report cards are you speaking about the elementary school report cards that are standards based? I'm asking because the secondary school report card hasn't changed since computers have been printing them out more than 30 years ago.

As far as the Global Learning Charter School, how many more students will be transferring into NBHS this year? It seems that you are cleaning house.

Tom,

We get it. You got caught in the heat of the moment and you wanted to please the two johns.

We get it. Mitchell set up the mary Lou bashing and you couldn't resist the mob mentality.

We get it. You now realize what you've done and want to back track. So you offer your private apologies when you know full well the damage is done. Your words of apology mean nothing until we read it in the paper or on the radio so that everyone knows exactly where you stand. Don't sit on the fence. You either support the two johns or you support the district.

We won't let you have it both ways.
