City on a Hill Charter School Enrollment / Drop Out Data

In 2008-09, 99 students started at the City on Hill Charter School in Grade 9 but by 2011-12 there were only 38 students left. That is a loss of 61 students.

The following is the 2011-12 cohort data:

Grade 9: 99

Grade 10: 61

Grade 11: 45

Grade 12: 38

The drop out pattern is similar to that of other cohorts.

From 1995-96 through 2011-12,City on a Hill had a total of 1,119 students enrolled the 9th grade.

This Charter school lost 570 or 51% of its students over the same period of time.

Please forward to the mayor in a large font. We all need to use data to inform our decisions!

If this was NBPS data there would be a federal investigation, and heads would roll!

The insanity will not stop in New Bedford until the standard times ceases to publish its crap. Every public employee and those that respect and support public servants must cancel their subscriptions. I canceled mine years ago and still get all the local news I need to stay informed. I also stopped buying goods and services from merchants that advertise in the standard times. More importantly, I periodically call local merchants and tell them I won't purchase anything from them as long as they advertise in the standard times.

If these charter schools are so GREAT, my question is "Why are SO MANY of the students dropping out of them?" As with the statistics here for City on the Hill Charter School, the Global Learning Charter School has a high dropout rate yet the money given from the school department budget to operate this school, I am sure, does not return back to the NBPS when the student leaves.

If I remember correctly, someone at one of the meeting I attended stated that 200 students were waiting to get into the charter schools. I think it was a meeting at St. James. If this is the case, why aren't the graduating a class of 50 or more students?

The powers to be are turning a "blind eye" to charter schools and will be doing the same for these innovation schools.

GREAT WAY FOR SOME PEOPLE TO MAKE MONEY MONEY MONEY!
