Representative Antonio Cabral did not endorse the Esperanza Innovation School proposal

On September 6, an article in the Whaling City Watch: New Bedford's Voice blog criticized Representative Antonio Cabral for supporting the proposed Esperanza Innovation School. We now know that Representative Antonio Cabral did not endorse the proposal nor was he even aware that his name had been included in the prospectus.

The design team posted the following statement on the WCW blog yesteday.

Esperanza School of Language and Culture Design Team: Kerry DeJesus, Andrea Galipeau, Catherine Stillerman on said:

We mistakenly included Rep. Cabral’s name among the “Established Partnerships” in the Esperanza School Prospectus, because one of our authors had spoken with him earlier this year about our interest in ELL students, and he generously offered to help us with research about the education of ELLs. Rep. Cabral has not endorsed the Esperanza School proposal, and he did not receive a copy of the prospectus before it was submitted. We apologize for any confusion.

It was obvious to me, on carefully reading the prospectus, that Rep Cabral's name was thrown on there along with others. Why the WWatch blog couldn't pick up on that, I don't know. Far worse, however, is that the editor didn't wait to check before lobbing the traitor tag out there.
