An Open Letter to Dr. Lawrence Finnerty, Member of the New Bedford School Committee
Throughout your career, you have been an advocate for equal educational opportunities. The Innovation Schools would create a system of segregation. The children in two entities would have access to programs and resources that would be denied to other students in those buildings and across the city. The U.S. Supreme Court declared in its landmark Brown v. Board of Education ruling that “Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal.” An affirmative vote on Innovation Schools would wipe-out fifty-eight years of progress in civil rights.
