The rumors have swirled since November about a large, gaping hole in the School Department’s budget for the current fiscal year. We had heard it was about $1.5 million. Unfortunately, the latest news from PRAB and City Hall pegs the deficit at $3 million.
Anyone who observed former Business Manager Deborah Brown at School Committee meetings knew that she was ill-suited for the New Bedford job. When you combine her lack of expertise with the antiquated procedures over at PRAB, you end up with the perfect fiscal storm.
