Was anyone shocked that Mitchell Chester, the Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), has recommended opening five new charter schools and expanding eleven others? Mitchell is so enamored with the push to privatize our public schools that "Charter" should be his middle name. One of the only proposals that Chester didn't endorse was in Brockton. Could that be because the state's new education secretary, Matthew Malone, was formerly that city's superintendent?
