Mr. Mitchell D.

Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Dear
Commissioner Chester:
I
am writing to enthusiastically endorse and support City on a Hill’s application
to open up and operate a similar High School in New Bedford as a Charter School
in 2014. As you may know, I was the
Founding Chair of the highly successful Global Learning Charter Public School
for three years and am still active on its Board of Trustees. I am also the Executive Director of the New
Bedford Business Park which has expanded from 18 to 45 companies and from 1,500
to 4,500 workers after I led an effort to modernize and beautify every aspect
of the Park.
City
on a Hill does an excellent job of taking in via a lottery mostly minority
students whom are 1 to 3 years or more behind grade level and then shaping them
up via a longer school day, a longer school year, tutoring and a highly
intensive college preparatory program etc.
As a data driven former Exxon Corporation Senior Executive, I am very
impressed with their high Attendance, MCAS Scores, Graduation Rates and College
Enrollment Rates.
While
I expect that the performance of New Bedford High School will improve
significantly from currently dismal levels under the leadership of Mayor Jon
Mitchell and Interim Superintendent Mike Shea, I believe that the City on a
Hill Charter School will offer an excellent alternative learning environment
for currently poor performing students in need of extra help and assistance and
whom require more time devoted to learning.
Thus,
I am 100% + in favor of City on a Hill’s application to start-up a similar High
School in New Bedford as a Charter School and will be active in helping them to
line up Community Support and secure a Good Site for the High School.
Sincerely,
Executive Director, Greater New Bedford Industrial Foundation

On December 6, 2012, Tom Davis testified against City on a Hill Charter School.
I guess Tom is blaming Jon and Mike for the dismal performance at NBHS with his statement: "While I expect that the performance of New Bedford High School will improve significantly from currently dismal levels under the leadership of Mayor Jon Mitchell and Interim Superintendent Mike Shea, I believe that the City on a Hill Charter School will offer an excellent alternative learning environment for currently poor performing students in need of extra help and assistance and whom require more time devoted to learning."
What a man!!!!
Tom, you need to go back to school and learn your rules of English as there were many words capitalized that are not proper words in the middle of the statements. Perhaps the highly successful GLPCS can help you.
Does this mean that Mr. Davis is abandoning the Global Learning Charter School? Will he now be promoting the City on the Hill as the highly successful City on the Hill Public Charter School!!!
Mr. Flip-Flop.
WOW!! I can't believe it!!! Tom is putting the blame on the Mayor and Mr. Shea for the dismal performance at the high school with his statement "under the leadership of Mayor Jon Mitchell and Acting Superintendent Mike Shea."
This is one for the textbooks.
Tom Davis seems to be on both sides of every issue.
He was also against innovation schools before he was for them.
One morning i was at a meeting and old tom spoke in support of the previous superintendent. Later on the same day he got up at another meeting criticized her.
