I think we know why Voc-Tech does so well on MCAS. Accept very few special needs students, get rid of them when they require some help, pick only the brightest and the best behaved to attend your school. And then if for some reason you don't think they are going to pan out...keep them until October so you get the per/student allotment for them and THEN kick them back to their city or town high school.

Voc does need to step up in their special ed programs. Things that they have been doing or the lack of what has been done for special needs students is unacceptable. but Terry Breton's quote "they want her to fit into them as opposed to taking her as a unique person." Was pretty bad because people always say that kids with disabilities should be treated equally and integrated with other students so they don't feel like they are getting special treatment. And just because Breton enlisted former Fairhaven assistant superintendent Ralph Tripp as an advocate means absolutely nothing.

Dear anonymous,
Parents of special needs children want them to be children first and foremost! Each child is an individual, and I mean all children. A child's with a significant disability only wants to be a child just like all the others. They want to run and jump and attend classes just like all the others. Unfortunately their needs keep them apart. Every school and school system should modify for kids. That may mean extra time on an assignment or that may mean a significantly different assignment. That is what the laws in our state and federal government are all about!
