I found the following statement in today's Attleboro Sun Chronicle newspaper: "New schools Superintendent Kenneth Sheehan called for a time of reflection and “self-evaluation” after several years of rapid change in the school district at the annual convocation of teachers and administrators held Tuesday morning at Attleboro High School."
“With the onslaught of initiatives and mandates, this school district has been on a roller coaster going 100 miles an hour for the past seven years,” said Sheehan, drawing applause from teachers. “We need to assess where we are, how did we get here, where are we going and what does the future hold.”

I envy Attleboro so much...we are just boarding the roller coaster of doom as they finally step off to enjoy the teacup ride.

Yes, this may be the roller coaster ride of our lives.....we need to see where we are going before we get sent there. So very envious of Attleboro right now as we all begin to feel so overwhelmed!

I think it's entirely possible that this is who Durkin sees herself as -- a "fixer" of sorts that takes over a job in an underperforming district, makes rapid changes in a Tazmanian Devil like whirlwind (successful, conscientious, popular or not) and leaves shortly after.

At 60, it's possible she sees herself putting in two or three years in New Bedford for 570k and three years in another similar situation for about the same, touting herself as hero to urban districts.

Another administration will come in after her and bring back some normalcy and figure out where they're at, like Attleboro.

It's like when a sports team brings a coach or manager in for a season or two for a rebuilding process and then they get fired and someone else comes in to finish the job and bring back some normalcy. Of course, in this case, the next few years, we'll all feel like shelved fine china and a bull just walked in.

Hopefully, it will not be 3 years before the School Committee wakes up and realizes they made another MISTAKE in selecting a Superintendent that at her interview she knew how to cross her "T's" and dot her "I's" to get the job but when she got it she is the only one who can read her writing. all in all it's another FINE MESS THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE will have to clean up at our TEACHERS and STUDENTS expense.

Prior to Pia the bully taking over the school system, the school committee had made hiring back the nurses that had been cut a priority. Now that we pia, our kid's health needs are no longer a priority and therefore, no nursing positions were restored. I'm glad the parent in the paper is making an issue out of the lack of health services at Winslow. Notice that Pia turned the matter over to heather Larkin? Notice that pia didn't make a comment in the paper? It's no accident. She created the problem and has a subordinate handle the issue to separate herself from that which she created. What's next pia, will kids have their lunches thrown away? Will you fire the cafeteria ladies?

Charter schools are thinly disguised private schools, plain and simple. The “movement” was never anything but a cruel scam, a ruse, to make up for the failure of the right-wing corporatist, union-bashing, anything-”public”-hating (especially public education), tax-dodging, “privileged” and
“entitled” to establish and codify such stupid ideas as voucher-systems, school-choice schemes, school-prayer(Christian only), and the privatization of a for-profit meritocracy. FIX our PUBLIC education system? We know what’s wrong, and it has to do with social and economic justice for ALL.

WOW! Attleboro sure sounds like they are headed in a completely different direction now that Dr. Durkin has left. Seems like the mayor is putting $ where he KNOWS it is needed as well. Are they hiring?
