A message from a member to Dr. Durikin

You have done more harm than good, Superintendent. You have evaporated our hope. We are not upbeat. As human beings, and especially as your teachers, you have demoralized us in every capacities. We know how and why you were brought on board. We do not respect you, mayor, and certain members of School Committee just as you do not respect us and or district. There have been similar superintendents in the past. And, your past has followed you to NB. Stop trying to fool us and the public. We deserve better and our union president agrees. He has to pick up the pieces and hold us together. He is the one who gives us hope. I hope you don't last 3 years as your ideologies are not only anti-union, but that of a ruthless dictator. We have referred to primary and secondary sources to substantiate these claims, and first-hand experiences.

Durkin is a calculating person who has NO vested interest in New Bedford. She landed here because she was fired from at least TWO of her previous districts. She has rented an apartment on Buzzards Bay and has no connections to our city. She is here for a paycheck or looking for another contract buyout. She has instructed her principals to sit in their offices and remain invisible. She only wants them to do their observations and give out those Needs Improvements. This is not through just cause, it is simply a strategy she is using to deem someone not in good standing. She can them terminate. When teachers get a NI, there is supposed to be support given to the teachers by their building administration. Has anyone received support? Our principal is NEVER seen. She is holed up in her office. She never leaves. She arrives much later than the staff members usually do and leaves earlier. Where is her commitment? She avoids any direct contact and instead requests emails. My classroom has over 13 special education students and it is supposed to be a co-teach classroom. However, the special educator I work with is servicing over 35 students and several other classrooms. I am left alone most of the day to service these children. Do parents of special education children realize that almost half the class is on IEP's and that the teacher can not really provide enough help? The principals have been asked for help but they do not even respond. They tell us to make due with what we have. Durkin has them fooled. Do they not understand that those secret meetings downtown involve how she will systematically eliminate principals? At least the Kempton Principal realized the fate and left on her own. May she be happy in her new district. She is a talented principal and does not need her reputation tarnished by Durkin. Durkin has been in many districts never staying long because she is a tyrant and does not work well with people. At her intro this year, she bragged that she was offered a job in a wealthy "w" district. She never said the name of the district but wanted to imply Waltham, Westford? It is easy to make that claim but I do not believe for one minute that she chose NB. She knows that the parents in the "W" districts would not tolerate the management style. Ask her how Narragansett liked her? She does not care if she runs our school system into the ground, she rents an apartment here and can pack up and leave. We are dedicated to this district. I live in this district. My children attend school in this district and I pay taxes in this district. I will do whatever it takes to rid our city of the political players currently in office. These individuals are playing a dangerous game with our children.

It's not only the superintendent we should be concerned with. Those that hired her need to be shown the door. If I remember correctly money was spent to send them to visit the districts of the final three candidates. They viewed and reviewed the qualifications and chose someone substandard, someone that was told she needs improvement! Then, to top it all off, they choose to give the more money ever paid to a NBHS employee. She has no ties to us. She says she wants improvement, but she isn't showing us the way. Her ranting and raving demoralizes the staff while students run amok!
