He just said that is lie. He looooves us! I think he is worried about his sponsors. You can't like teachers and support Pia. Not possible.

Wow, what kind of degree or teaching experience has old Phil achieved in his life? What educational level did he reach? That would be similar to me assuming things about a police officer's job, when I have never had any experience in that field. I didn't realize that owning a dumpy, greasy spoon dive would give him the expertise to judge teachers who teach with their hearts and souls. It's a shame that they allow such ignorant buffoons on the radio. But , then again , someone who assumes=ASS!

This man disgusts me. TIP: If you are 80 years old and Phil says you are gorgeous--offer to bring him to Eye Health.

Time for Tim Weisberg!? Would WBSM be cutting Phil's hours? We can hope!

Taylor Cormier had jury duty, so Phil did 1-4. Phil is going to do the morning show on Thursday. He keeps saying that the NBEA doesn't represent teachers.

As a teacher at New Bedford High School, volunteer in the community and within the school, involved as a volunteer in the JROTC program (which has been instrumental in making a pathway of success for student's who have had no where to go). I believe in the student's who choose to go beyond their abilities but I'm also compassionate and an advocate for those who can't speak up for themselves. I am one of many teachers who go above and beyond what is required along with attending our own families, continuous education and acquiring PDP's, workshops and attending classes required by the state. God Bless all Teacher's for their love and commitment to all students.

Where do I begin.....I am at a loss of words as to what is going in New Bedford. I was all for the emergency meeting and on board with Lou when he said a vote of no confidence is not the right move. After the school committee meeting I think we have no choice but to have a vote of no confidence, not for the superintendent but for the school committee. After the meeting last night, they serve no purpose in this district. They are suppose to establish a vision for the schools that reflect a consensus of the board, community and district staff. Did any of you, as teachers, get asked what was best for the district? I know I didn't. They do have additional responsibilities, such as adopting a balanced annual budget. We all know how that turned out last school year when over 4 million dollars went missing or unaccounted for. Whatever spin you want to put on it. Hmmmmm, they couldn't handle that. They are responsible for issuing financial reports and negotiating contracts. Well, we were suppose to have our common planning time paid for at one point in our contract and that was taken away from us by the lovely mayor because there was no money. Anyone seeing a pattern? They are also responsible for approving curriculum materials. Oh that's a joke, they don't even have to do that because we haven't had a new reading series in 11 years and we currently do not have a science or social studies curriculum at the elementary level for which to approve materials for. So what exactly does the school committee do? In my eyes absolutely nothing!!!! We supposedly have 2 members who support us? Where were they last night when Pia appointed herself as the designee for level 3 grievances? Not on our side. Grievances will never make it pass Pia Durkin and the school committee will be left in the dark about what is really going on in the schools. It's time for a vote of no confidence for the school committee!!! We don't have the luxury of time to assemble committees to gather information. She is not going to care!!! She is too smart for that!!! We need to act now or we just need to stop blogging about it until her reign of terror is over, in three years.
As for the standard times, where did the editor get his degree from? Doesn't he know that there is always two sides to every story? The paper only wants to print the side of Durkin. She is such a charmer to everyone except those who work for her. She can talk a good game but has anyone heard how we are going to achieve the 40%? The only thing I have taken away from her speeches is that she wants to clean house in New Bedford and put fresh faces in the district and all problems will be solved. Who will even want to come to this district to work? If I was a new teacher, I would be scared out of my mind to work for a tyrant like her. The standard times is nothing but a rag paper that only prints one sided stories. You want to know what really goes on in schools, come spend some time in our classrooms and see what we have to do on a daily basis. At that point, Steve and Jack, you can write your garbage articles.
Last but not least, Phil. He has nothing against the teachers right? What made you such an expert on what qualifies someone as a proficient teacher or not? When we will everyone realize that in order to fix New Bedford, the accountability has to be 1/3 parents, 1/3 teachers, and 1/3 administration. Until we all get on the same page, New Bedford will always function with bandaids on it. Pia, you are just a bigger bandaid the school committee and the mayor has found to "fix" the gushing wound we call our New Bedford Public Schools.

I feel so disrespected by this district. I don't think I even care to reapply for my job. One can only take so much abuse. I'm thinking it's time to transition into a new career before it's too late and I have fewer choices.

If there was ever a question of how corrupt this school committee and mayor are, it has been officially answered with their vote to make Durkin the level 3 grievance designee.

I am applying else where after this year. I am looking for a district that treats their teachers with respect. Any where but in New Bedford , all we have here is a weak, useless mayor that is emasculated by Pia. A school committee that is as crooked as the mayor and a bully for a superintendent .

When was the last time Phil taught, if ever?!!!

Q. When was the last time, if ever, Phil attended a School Committee meeting?
A. I haven't seen him at any of the meeting I attend.

Q. What great ingredient does Phil have for turning around our school district?
A. Bashing the Lou and the teachers on his talk radio program.

Q. What secret recipe does Phil have for making the students want to get an education and stop bullying other students and faculty?
A. It's a secret recipe and he is not sharing it with anyone.

New Bedford is losing and will continue to lose too many fine educators. A couple on this post are leaving and I am as well. I just truly don't know if I can stick it out for the rest of the year. As a second career professional, I have never seen such mistreatment of employees. This administration and school committee should be ashamed of themselves.

The people who sit on the school committee are a bunch of spineless old fools for the most part. We all think it, but most of all the superintendent "knows" it. She's a lot smarter than we are, lets admit it. It only took her two months to figure it out. We on the other hand still haven't figured it out and continue year over year to elect them.

Let's get those substitute plans ready! I have over a year's worth of sick time. Find the robust rigor with the ill prepared subs...honestly, some of these subs seem to be released from a psych ward. This district will not attract the best and brightest after the treatment our most talented teachers have been trying to shake off.
