Another letter from the Standard Times to Lou St. John

Regarding: Meetings with superintendent

January 3, 2014 at 3:36 PM

Mr. St. John:

Mayor Jon Mitchell told me today that, at the beginning of the school year, Superintendent Pia Durkin requested regular meetings with the union leadership, but you did not accept that invitation. Any comment?

Steve

Here we go again. Wow, the Sub-standard Times has WAY too much time on their hands! Unreal.

I have an idea Steven DaCosta. Why don't you try to find the missing 6+ million dollars "lost" by the administration? That should keep you busy on this snowy day. I guess the ST is slow on news today. The union and this battle with the Mayor and Durkin is your way of creating some readership. How is the ST doing anyway? I heard that your subscriptions are down 67% Hell, that is not good. Maybe you should look into it.

Steve DeCosta, for the record, resides in Wareham and attended Westport Public Schools. Always interesting when you see outsiders who have no vested interest in our city.

Another job for you Stevie! We had school on Thursday and I was very happy to be there. I do not like extra days in June. But inquire about the attendance rate for that day! It was just over 50% for students. Strange though, the teachers were there.

Yes, the Teachers were there! We always are despite the disdain for us in this city. Not quite sure how we got to a place where Teachers are blamed for the reckless deeds of others. Seems to me and many others that somehow, someway there should be an investigation of the School Committee and the Mayor's office on where all the money went? Sure would be nice to hear what they had to say. Surely somehow it will be the Teacher's fault.

Is that true? Has Lou been ignoring Durkin's requests to meet since the beginning of the school year?

My take on this? The Standard Times and perhaps the small minority of supporters are getting very nervous about the January 17th rally. I'd bet they are going to use whatever tools they can to try and make us turn on each other in the next couple weeks. Yup, they can try to make Lou look uncooperative, they can try to make it look like the support isn't credible, but the reality is, these defensive tactics usually backfire. My advice, don't allow these feeble attempts at redirection take anyone's focus off the real issue, the fact that starting next September, if this plan is implemented, NBHS will not be a place where you'd want to send your own child or relative.

I wonder if this fear will merit a two page ad this time? Good luck getting people to sign though, since last time a few of the people were mislead.

They seem to be looking for a fight to sell more papers. I would not respond to this stupidity.

^ A lot of it probably went to buy out all of these superintendents....Bonner, Francis and now 185k for this one. Just think if we had all those funds to invest in more teachers which would lower class sizes. I'm just naming a small fraction of where some of the funds went wrong. There are many PRAB positions that could be eliminated to improve funds. I could go on forever about where "the powers that be" have mismanaged money. As the above blog stated, they would somehow find a way to blame it on the teachers, the ones who have never ever been in charge of the funds.

The elephant may be able to cast a bit of light on this...

Stage magicians, trial lawyers, and politicians all practice the art of audience redirection. How many times have you watched a politician who's about to be embarrassed during a debate suddenly bring up an irrelevant but emotionally chrged subject like, "My opponent's third cousin's neighbor is in prison for murder!!"

The sole purpose of Steve DeCosta's question is to "redirect" the attention of the audience away from whatever embarrassing subject is being broached. As I've stated before, poor student performance and violent behavior is almost without exception the result of criminally incompetent parenting. This is embarrassing not only to all those parents who are working hard to fill America's prisons, single parent homes, and low wage service jobs, but to just about anyone in a position of authority within the community.

In an earlier comment I compared the behavior of whole communities to that of a textbook alcoholic family. There is no limit to the creativity and energy Pia Durkin and most others in positions of authority and influence will expend in order to avoid openly admitting to the source of the problem.

Good luck people. You're going to need it.

Steve appears to be working overtime to discredit Lou.

I'm glad these letters from the s-t were published because they are proof positive that the standard times hates teachers.

Thanks Lou for sharing these ridiculous inquiries with the membership. It continues to shed a bright light as to how pathetic the Sub-ST really is! Man, are they searching for anything to help sell their rag.

And of course the mayor opens his mouth and more lies come out. This guy is really getting scared. More mumbling and nonsense.

^I agree with the elephant and other blog .....Steve is trying to redirect the attention of the audience and ST trying to discredit Lou and have us turn on each other. Looks like ST and others are trying " the best defense is a good offense" tactic. Thanks Lou for all you do.

The ST, Durkin, and mayor are trying their best to divide and conquer, but we will remain UNITED throughout!!

Q: How can you tell when the mayor is lying?

A: His lips are moving.
