Not could, did!

She should just leave and take her patsy mayor with her. What a pip!

Take some principals with her too.

Yet, she was deceitful to the broader public.

Nice to read a balanced approach to the situation. Word play seems to be in use for the good Dr. They may not physically have pink slips, but she verbally told the staff of their plight.

It's all semantics with Dr. D!

WHY DOES NEW BEDFORD RUN ON DURKIN?!!!

Durkin is an irresponsible leader who has pushed her way through other districts leaving them in dire straits. She is rolling through New Bedford like she has been sent down to be our almighty savior. Clearly, she is a legend in her own mind. She is deceitful and is hiring individuals at an enormous expense. These individuals are to insulate her with support. She represented herself at the SC meeting the other night by stating that she did not pink slip employees. She then continued to state that she she just asked them to reapply for their jobs and send a letter of intent by next week. Dr. Durkin if no one has lost their job, why would they be required to reapply? At least when Durkin drives NBPS into the ground, all the local unions as well as unions throughout the state will be able to sit back and remind the voters of our position. Politicians are ruining public education because they have friends who would like to profit from your child. Yes, they would like to privatize education and collect some cash. Teachers, you MUST be at this meeting if you support teachers. You MUST make time in your day. Do not expect the other teachers to do all the work while you sit back. Attend meetings, get involved. Get your family and friends involved. These are our students and this is their education. We owe it to them to provide them with good solid teacher and leadership. If we can not stand up for ourselves, then how do we do it for our students? Durkin needs to be shown the door and she needs to understand that WE will rise up and speak out about the atrocities.

^Clever...you must be an effective teacher.

If you are in an elementary school this rally could be your only chance to stop the same thing happening to you nine months from now. Most elementary schools are at Level 3 and could become Level 4 this fall. Then it's your turn-around.

If you're a lousy teacher, adios. Your history impedes your future at NBHS. Resting on your laurels doesn't cut the mustard. Protecting those teachers backfired.

Why isn't this teacher bashing loser asking about discipline backup, lousy parents, and protecting poor hires by Pia? She has hired some lousy administrators. She should start there.

^Classy post, and typical and hypocritical of the blogger. That is why you are in the position you are in. That attitude will get you far in your career. Oh, and she is a he. This blog is a forum to express different viewpoints. Before you call someone else a loser, look in the mirror. I am not bashing good teachers, I am stating a fact. Bad teachers give good teachers a bad name. Are you one of them? Do not assume that the issues you raise are not an immediate concern. Next time, post in a professional manner. My post was based on wisdom to raise awareness.

Dr. Durkin must have some redeeming qualities. I don't think she would take on such a precarious endeavor with blinders on. It will all work out in the end, and those who are meant to stay will remain at NBHS and continue to make a difference.

Sound like someone has a guilty conscience and is averting the reality of the situation. Misplaced anger does not lead to a resolution.

Sad to read the read calling someone a loser. Trashy of the person who resorts to put downs.

Since when is it a "professional" manner to accuse the NBEA of protecting "lousy" teachers? Is there a big difference between the word lousy and loser? You wanted to drop your insult and go. Sorry, not happening here. Guess I won't look for you at the rally or downtown spending money in the restaurants like the alert and involved citizens of this area(statewide).

Let's refocus on the real issues to stop the turnaround monster. Complacent teachers exist in all schools and in all districts just like any other profession.

Sorry, but it is happening. We are all in jeopardy of losing our jobs.

To the blogger that called someone a loser, I did not read anything about union bashing but I sure as hell wouldn't tolorate that type of attitude. I don't work in the teaching sector but in my line of work I've seen the best and worst of unions.

Disgruntled teacher, continue to entertain us with your name-calling rants.

Lousy is related to the word louse, not loser. That is the difference.

Teachers are being told to F*off and go F* yourself and you people are horrified by the word loser? There's no way you would last a day teaching in this district.
