Silent Candlelight Vigil on Monday, February 10, 2014

This (20 minute) Silent Candlelight Vigil will take place on Monday, February 10, 2014 outside the Keith Middle School Community Room from 6:30 p.m. to 6:50 p.m.

The purpose of this vigil is to bring attention to the climate of fear that now exists within New Bedford Public Schools.

Fear and Firings have to end.

Our working conditions are our children's working conditions.

Please support New Bedford's students and educators by attending this very important event.

Gee, Sunday's S-T says everything is fine in the NBPS. We need to turn out in force to let them know that Pia has us on the road to destruction.

Are we going in after the walk?

The paper said the NBEA accepted the plan. Aren't we all set then?

Anonymous said...

^Do you feel "all set"?

I was at the ratification. We agreed modify the contract but Lou made it clear that NBEA does not support the turnaround model. He advocated for the transformation model.

Bob Unger's out of touch, don't believe anything he says. He's the one that gave you portia.

^he loved her until she quit then he started to criticize her after she was gone. in my opinion, the standard times is responsible for much of what is wrong with our schools and unger is personally responsible. the man has a bad heart.

I agree. The S-T is the "silent or anonymous" School Committee and is constantly working at attacking our union and us.

Remember, if 29%, the new targeted percentage for non-rehire as now stated by Pia, this will mean that approximately 50 plus teachers will not be returning to the high school. I believe I heard that there are about 180 on the high school faculty. Do the simple math.

It is important that we ALL attend the candlelight vigil.

Maybe the "great and powerful" pia will do the "math" at the next school committee meeting. Never forget how she did the math to calculate 40% and how Mitchell was totally bowled over by her explanation of the calculation. So unbelievable how the blow smoke up each other's behind.

50 plus is too many. This is f in absurd. I will be there on the 10th. The rag makes it sound like we are happy with the ratification . Don't "lay down" people. There is still work to do, a message to send.

I had to laugh when Bob Unger, in today's paper, proclaimed that the rallies and boycotts were over. He must be confused. Jon Mitchell and his administration take their orders from Bob but New Bedford teachers don't.

Lou isn't Jon, that's for sure.

Having a candlelight vigil is a brilliant idea. Pia Durkin is killing the New Bedford School System.

What Pia is doing to you teachers is tragic.

As a high school teacher the 50% or maybe 29% is truly a life altering game changer, like an evil game that will not go away. Whether the odds are 50% or 29% they are not good odds. In addition, there is absolutely no indication of what the criteria will be. NOBODY feels safe. EVERYBODY feels totally at risk. What kind of culture & climate do you think that creates?
