Yes. This idiom doesn't even have the most robust ability to express what is going on. My fire has been snuffed.
Change is hard, but respect should come easy. We held up the district (words once spoken by the mayor)...now the entire weight is being dropped on top of us. Please listen to the teachers of New Bedford.
The school committee and the mayor are puppet's for Durkin.
Vote of no confidence in supt, school committee and mayor. Call for their resignations
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence.
I certainly hope our administrators are taking extra measures/precaustions to ensure the safety of everyone at NBHS, especially the teacher who was at the receiving end of the incident that just took place.
If simply taking the student's phone evoked such a fit of rage, then it is reasonable to be very concerned about serious retaliation in the wake of him getting expelled, and others involved facing major ramifications.
I have read comments elsewhere contending that the consequences were too drastic, that it encourages the student to remain on the same destructive path.
Well... that student is already displaying criminal behavior and NOT delivering appropriate consequences also encourages and perpetuates such behavior, but worse it encourages other students to model this behavior. School Committee-- Zero Tolerance please.
The award winning Standard Times let Evans, Sherman, and Anderson, Fraga, and many more young journalists go because they refuse to pay them anything close to the pay of their fast food correspondent Steve Urbon.
I cannot express my gratitude enough for shedding light on the actions of the School Committee. They not only turned their back, but they allow/ed criminal behavior to continue in a vicious attack against teachers. I spoke to each one personally, including the mayor, about the suffering inflicted upon me by one of their Admin colleagues about my diagnosis of PTSD. It was downplayed and my grievance was denied. I realized how little they value teachers and how they protect their own kind. Never in my life have I encountered such cruelty, and to such an extent. Thank you, Lou, for your endurance to expose the truth. My heart goes out to Joanne, as well.

Is there a gag order on the entire SC?
I do not consider myself to be a conspiracy theorist but there is something going on within the political confines of N.B. that is beyond explanation. Never in all my 50+ yrs. have I witnessed such silence amongst our political leaders be it local or our state delegation on such a hotbed issue that negatively impacts the image of N.B. beyond its city limits as the issues taking place in NBPS.
I truly believe that the NBPS district is already in state receivership through the guise of superintendent Durkin. I also believe that the Mayor and all of the other elected officials had been told by the DESE (Mitchell Chester) prior to bringing in Durkin that either you accept Durkin and give her full reign or we will put your school district in state receivership. Politicians believing this would be a black eye for the city chose the Durkin option.
How is this working out for you now?
Someone PLEASE prove my theory wrong.
PS. I would like to thank Bryan Gomes for his support and in being the only elected official to my knowledge to this date to address the RECENT violence that has taken place in NBHS. Unfortunately, had something been done with more fortitude to address the violence taking place in ALL NBPS schools when the last video warnings came to light, maybe this most recent hideous act could have been avoided. You can thank the Standard Times and WBSM for putting the kibosh on that.
BEWARE, before someone gets seriously injured.
I really should stop repeating myself because its clear no one wants to believe that this is a battle that needs to be fought on the state level. Our school committee has no say. Educators from across the state your next! Vote out all incumbents! Send a message. If you want more of the same keep voting the same retreads into office. Teachers unions cannot support the state Democratic party. Stay neutral and do not contribute! Only then will they listen!
My opinion...The school committee is criminally negligent when it comes to many ethical, professional, and monetary matters that occur and have occurred in the school system. Their decisions, actions and lack of actions are an exhibit of the kind of corruption the has doomed New Bedford now for generations. My opinion. The voters in New Bedford are either benefiting from their actions, or are duped. Pay them for their performance and they owe the city millions in the costs they have created in failed superintendents, lost (stolen) money, and mismanaged funds that never help the teachers or students. My opinion...
It's clear you don't understand that in communities where the school committee is strong--things are different. Those places have pushed back successfully against state mandates. Both parties have failed the public schools--however, one is easily more destructive than the other.
Mayor Mitchell has failed New Bedford residents. When you stop listening to the people, the people stop listening to you....
The issue is not which party is more destructive than the other. In Massachusetts the only party that counts is the Democratic party which controls everything. If the Republicans were in control I'd say the same things. The only thing any politician will pay attention to is the sudden loss of campaign contributions by teachers unions across the state and urban districts in particular.
The School Committee is just a poser. They don't have any say about what Durkin does or doesn't do. Really, do you think they have any power what-so-ever? They do not understand what is going on; that's why they sit at their meetings with stupid grins on their faces.
