South Coast Social Emotional Learning Summit – Registration open!

Join your fellow MTA members and other educators at the South Coast Social Emotional Learning Summit onSaturday, October 27, at Somerset Berkley Regional High School.

This free program is open to teachers, education support professionals, administrators and school committee members. The planning committee includes area school educators and the MTA, in conjunction with the Office of Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, the Carney Family Foundation, Bay Coast Bank and the Bristol County Chamber of Commerce.

The day will feature more than 40 workshops, many of which are being presented by MTA members. Topics include:
  • Bullying
  • Building Relationships with Urban Middle School Students
  • Just Talk About It (Adolescent Mental Health)
  • Responsive Classroom for Specialist Teachers
  • Supporting Transgender and Gender-Nonconforming Students
  • Mindfulness for Teachers
  • Using Books to Talk About Race and Racism
  • Welcoming All Families: Starting a Home Visit Program
  • A Relationship-Building Approach to Classroom Management
  • Cyber Safety: Do’s and Don’ts for Keeping Safe from Online Predators
  • Helping Traumatized Children Learn, Succeed and Avoid Substance Abuse
  • Supporting Immigrant Students in Our Schools

The agenda for the day will run from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with three workshop sessions and a lunch. The keynote address will be delivered by author and psychologist Mitch Abblett, Ph.D. Dr. Abblett is the author of The Mindfulness Skills Activity Book for Children.
