Superintendent slams School Committee

"For some, they would prefer that decision making be gray, or benefiting their political stance, but for me I am concerned for the equity of all our children. The policy must be black or white with no gradation."

"Regardless of a decision, some will disagree and assume that their opinion is best. This opinion may not consider all the facts or may have a hidden political agenda, such as using it as a platform to undermine the effectiveness of the superintendent, to comply with those who will support their political platform, or just an opportunity to use the media for their own political gain."

"I am fully aware that I will not always have the support of all School Committee members. I have failed to see that the premise of change in New Bedford is not about changing habits, protocol or procedure but is really about status quo with just a new complexion. I misunderstood what change meant and what the community wanted. I have failed to live vicariously through the eyes of Open Line or to use children as a means to launch a political platform or agenda."

"rudeness and arrogance" isn't that what st john said in his letter to the school committee in October 2008?

Toughen up... you took a position that is constantly under the scrutiny of public opinion...which is one of our first amendment rights
