"the teachers' union president called her "dictatorial" because she scheduled a professional development day to start earlier than the daily start time in the contract (albeit with a free breakfast."
I guess that as long as you give teachers a free breakfast you can violate their contract.

Bonner is out of control.
She sounded to good to be true and she was.
I don't agree with open enrollment, however all of these exceptions to the rule are ridiculous. Decide what you want to do about transfers and stop the madness. There have been so many cuts this year at the elementary level. Does the admin. take that into consideration? The classroom teacher always pays the price.
I don't agree with the open enrollment either, but there are exceptions at times. Bonner thinks she can do whatever she wants and no one is her boss and she obviously doesn't want to listen or talk to anyone!!! Can we get someone to replace her even temporarily!!!???
Where will the quarter million dollars plus come from to buy her out of her contract? We all know the money is not available and why should we? Maybe we should let her do her job and do ours as well. Working for her is certainly a better deal than what we had before.
the issue isn't the earlier start or the free breakfast- which was always provided in the past- it is the unilateral decision to start the day earlier than before... she was contacted by the union to bargain the start time, and chose to ignore the call- SEVERAL TIMES prior to start. She has established a pattern of making decisions that violate our contract, and wait for the union to file a grievance against her. How many times are we and the school committee going to allow her to violate labor laws before she is reigned in? The school committe is her boss, and can micromanage her actions. Also, she has a two year contract with a third year option. Buying her out may be possible... but isn't insubordination grounds for dismissal without having to pay out her contract? How about the numerous times we have to seek assistance from the state labor board? Federal Law? If she can't work congenially with the school committe and/or the union(s), she needs to be held accountable
Speaking of accountable-Keep up this public Bonner bashing and we will be working for the DOE! Do you think all these complaints are not being heard by others? Be careful what you wish for,and remember she may be a problem for "some" union members, but we will all live with the outcome.
She is a problem to all of our union memebers. A contract is a contract. Whether she or you or any one who agrees with you likes it or not. We have fought long and hard to get what we have today. Not her nor anyone else for that matter is going to take that away. She was "hired" to do a job. She therefore is accountable for her actions and needs to answer to those that hired her. Her childish tantrums, screaming fits, threats and petty actions are perfect examples of her inability to self manage. Is this the kind of leader you want? Has your job gotten any easier? You must have the cream of the crop. If it has and if you do please let me know so I can work where you work because even though I love what I do "IT AINT EASY". She may be the head (in charge)but without the rest of the body(us)she is incapacitated. It would be nice for once to hear thank you from her. Job well done. Did we get that? HELL NO! Lastly, My hat goes off to you MAYOR LANG. Your kind and wonderful words of gratitude are what gives us the desire to continue to do what we do.
