Since there is no article here to read, I would like to address an issue that should be related to implementing new school board candidates--providing the schools with the supplies they need to run a school properly. It is only the end of October, and already we are being told that we will not be receiving any new ink for our printers, nor will we be able to get more paper in the buildings. OK, can someone tell me how an educator can teach children effectively without any handouts? Especially when we often don't even have textbooks to use! (Or they are so outdated, they're not worth using!) There needs to be a better handling of funds in this district so that teachers and students are ensured at least the basic necessities to provide a decent educational environment. Also along this line of thinking is another matter that may come before the school board eventually--the lack of school handbooks at Roosevelt Middle this year may spark an unwanted controversy or lawsuit. As some of you may know, a handgun was apprehended from a student at Roosevelt today. Well, as a result of this particular student NOT receiving a handbook at the beginning of the school year, and a parent NOT having signed off on having read the rules and agreeing to them, the parties involved may have a leg to stand on when trying to get out of this situation, or if the principal tries to expel the student. Way to go New Bedford!
In response to Deep Throat, just another example of putting the cart before the horse. Any coincidence that the student handbook came home with my child today the day after the gun incident??? Was Dr. Bonner aware that no handbooks were ever distributed in the school?? If she's in charge, she should have known it! We lead by example. Isn't that what we'd expect from our Superintendent? So much for a Doctrate degree. P.S. the social studies text that my child is using is almost 14 years old. How can we expect our kids to be prepared for the 21st century? I bet they have ink and paper for all administrators though!
