Know your Weingarten Rights
Weingarten rights guarantee an employee the right to union representation during an interview by the employer. If the interview could in any way lead to the employee being disciplined or terminated, or affect his or her working conditions, he or she should respectfully request that a union representative or officer be present at the meeting. If representation is requested and denied, the employee may choose not to answer any questions.

I think you shouls also tell the teachers when and under what circumstances they do not have the right to union representation. I have attended conferences on behalf of the NBEA and there are times when a teacher is called to a meeting with an administrator and does not have the right to representation. It is, however, a good idea to know and to request this right. Once this request is made, even if the culture of the meeting changes, you are covered.
This has nothing to do with Weingarten Rights, however, there are some interesting educational articles to be found at Habermanfoundation.org.
members need to read more than the salary schedule in the contract. We will be establishing a negotiating team soon. It would behoove our members to peruse the contract and write down some issues they feel need to be represented at the negotiating table. Then forward to the NBEA office.
Great advice DSS...we need to focus on more than $$$....working conditions are terrible at the elementary level.............
What's up at Roosevelt?
Why is the Roosevelt principal allowed to do whatever she wants? Ms. Fernandes changes staff schedules/working conditions and does not follow the proper procedures for evaluations. There is no vision, focus, or discipline. When will the staff down there decide to take a no confidence vote?
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE WORD "PROFESSIONAL"? MORE MEETINGS, MORE LOOKING OVER THE SHOULDER,LESS RESPECT, AND OUR JOBS SCRUTINIZED. NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND, JUST TEACHERS. MOST RESTRICTED ENVIRONMENT, AKA TEACHERS. LEAST RESTRICTED ENVIRONMENT STUDENTS. RMS, LEADERSHIP,HOLDING ONTO A SINKING SHIP!! THAT'S CALLED DAMAGE CONTROL, THAT IS OUT OF CONTROL!
people need to also realize that they should keep their hands off children. What starts as an innocent touch or guide can end up being charged with a 51A. be careful what you say and do.
Amen!!!!! We all know teachers that can't control themselves. What if it were your kid?
