Dear Carolee,

Why are you so upset? Is it because our pal Portia went away? Do you miss her? Don't be sad. Everythink will work out.

She's applying for jobs every where. I can't wait for her to get a job. She's such a "change" agent. She changed so much in Hamden. It was a shame that the school committe didn't hire her as the superintendent.

In New Bedford and nobody wanted to see her leave. Aunt Clara cried the day she left. I cried. I'm still crying.

The parents and school committee in Hamden all miss her lively meetings. In New Bedford, the Mayor, the school committee, and the parents miss the pleasant exchanges they once had. The school committee meetings are so boring now. All they do is talk about education stuff. How sad!

The good news is that Portia is looking for jobs, first it was Monroe City, Mo and now she's applying in Youngstown, Oh.

She'll end up somewhere and we'll be able to visit. I promise!

I really like the picture of us at the reception. I included the link to our picture and the article. I hope you like it.

Love,

Me

Carolee is right...she is never wrong. I blame Louis St. John for everything. It's beccause of him and the union leadership that we don't have world peace. In the words of Jack Spillane, "Bad teachers union, bad, bad."

I didn't see it but St. John must have forced the teachers to vote the the wrong way. It must have been the look in his eye.

Jack Spillane didn't like Lou back in 2008. He must clairvoyant.

Everyone that has a subscription to the (sub)Standard Times should cancel. If you want to read their garbage get it online for free or just grab one before it lines a bird cage. We throw those out by the dozens in my school everyday. If every NBEA member and their friends and family members were willing to cancel this could lead to thousands of fewer subs this rag newspaper gets. I'd like to see if Jack Spillane and these other maniacs are kept on once they feel some significant profits lost. I will guarantee you that the percentage of educators that subscribe to this horrible newspaper is well above the average of the general population...they have already figured out this newspaper is terrible. Since the Standard Times believes they have a right to put their hand in our wallet...lets show them that we actually have the ability to directly drive their revenue stream down.

I am so sick of the SubStandard Times. I agree they should be boycotted. When are stupid people going to realize that change for the sake of sake isn't worth jack (pun intended). And not for nothing but I have witnessed great new innovative ideas be presented to school officials and they put all ideas down that come from teachers. Is this really a conducive attitude to collegiality and professionalism? Can you imagine what they would be like without a union? They know best right? They spend so much time in the classroom, like this Carolee consultant woman. How much do you make lady? The consultants that get hired for district PD certainly make far more than the rest of us. The only authority in the field these types of people have, is whatever educational philosophy that has taken over as the current fad. They have no concept of reality in the classroom. If you have participated in RISE training then you know what I mean. Talk about a joke of wasted resources. You know what change needs to happen lady? Parents need to teach their kids English before enrolling them in high school, make their kids go to school (and in September, not October when they return from vacation), care before their kid does something idiotic to get themselves expelled. The district needs to grow some intestinal fortitude and start doling out consequences to those students and parents that refuse to follow the rules. Our change is dictated by the DESE and we always follow the line. Why do we get blamed when they realize they screwed up and their “change” doesn’t work? Again, more BS from someone who has no idea what they are talking about. Teachers were bullied at the meeting? Since when? I was there? Were you there Carolee? Did you witness people being bullied? Obviously not, because no such thing happened. And the claims you are making about Lou St. John are what is despicable. I wonder if it's enough for you to be sued for defamation of character. Shame on you for condemning a man you obviously don't even know. Lou is one of the most impartial individuals I have ever met. He won't even voice opinion on a matter in private let alone in public. He refuses to influence anyone with his personal opinion. Lou, a bully? Carolee, I realize you are probably bored because districts don't exactly have the money to be paying your exorbitant fees these days, but maybe a new hobby is in order. Why not try writing fiction since you seem to have a knack for making up stories? Oh and you have a list? Do tell Carolee, where has your courage disappeared to? How can you bad mouth someone you don’t even know then withhold such info about others that you supposedly have proof of? Ignorance is the world’s greatest enemy.

Carolee should have disclosed that she was a big time Portia Bonner supporter. She wrote letters to the paper supporting her even while Bonner was doing her best to destroy our system.

We need to stick together during these difficult times. People like her would love to destroy our union.

I think that the NBEA should apologize for the Wall St collapse, economic depression, GOP filibuster, and lowering of rich people's taxes that has led to reduced funding for education in New Bedford. What were they thinking?

I don't feel guilty for voting the way I did. We negotiated our raises. We gave uo bcbs and took the harvard pilgrim plan which saved the city millions. We also recently had our co-pays raised and now have deductibles that we didn't have before. That saved the city a ton of money.

Most of us spend small fortunes on our classrooms and our students. We spend countless hours correcting papers, planning lessons, calling parents and the list goes on.

That woman wrote an insulting letter and yet she has no clue what I do on a daily basis nor does she care. Ask her how long she was principal of the charter school and you'll be surprised by her answer.

If anyone is a disgrace to the education profession it is that woman.

I have no guilt for the way I voted and neither should anyone who participated in the process regardless of how they voted.

NBEA forever.

Dear Carolee,

I could sit here and defend the union, which by the way, is awesome or I could insult you , but I think that I'll pray for you instead. You definitely need it!

Consultants steal your watch , then tell you the time.

Just a thought-when we're writing on this blog it might be helpful to remember that many people read these posts. Sticking to the facts and voicing opinions is important. However, the name calling and accuations may be seen as less than professional. When we state that we spend our own money, correct papers at night and stay late I don't believe the puplic understands nor do they care. We are seen as overpaied with too much time off. The fact that most would not or could not do our job does not enter the picture.

Portia Bonner is gone,
Jack Spillane has been given more time on this blog than necessary, the School Committie and Mayor are elected by the voters of
New Bedford. We have no control over any of this however some continue to make these the issues. As for defending Lou St. John I think he can take care of himself. When a consultant states thier opinion we can disagree without insulting.

The fact is there is a contract the union members stated thier position- done. Can We move on to new business?

It's funny, I must've attended a different meeting than the one some are referring to. I at no time thought that we were being bullied by anyone. I felt that we ALL had the opportunity to speak our mind, in fact were encouraged to do so. The facts were clearly presented to us as well as the concessions that were to be considered. After several questions and comments were discussed we were given a ballot to mark our vote. I do not understand how anyone can say that we were "BULLIED" into voting a certain way.
If you didn't speak your mind or vote the way that you wanted to, than shame on you!

Lou thank you for your tireless efforts!
