I had a dream last night and in my dream all the people who constantly condemned the teachers had to switch jobs with us for a month-I think Mr spilliane was the first to wimp out. Anyway, many couldn't last the day never mind the month teaching their own unruly children. We switched roles with these people and we started to blame these new teachers for our childrens'upbringing knowning full well that kids mirror parent's behavior. When many "wimped" out only after a few days, we went back to work and were actually acknowledged with respect! Boy what a fantasy dream that was!

I have been waiting for Jack Spillane, Southern New England's giant of journalism, to add his two cents on the events of last week. Since we all know he reads this blog, the following is for him:

Dear Jack:
How's it going? You must be having a rough time this summer. A first rate columnist, like Howie Carr, would have been able to write a column on the New Bedford teachers in one day. It took you almost one week.

Tell me about your childhood. Was there a teacher that belittled or failed to encourage you? If your answer is yes, please accept our apologies. There are good and bad people in every profession. I have worked in four school systems and New Bedford is blessed to have some of the finest educators in the area.

Are you jealous that most of us probably make more money? There is a good reason for that. WE EARN IT! New Bedford seems to have more than its share of principals that bully and harass teachers. There are also students that are not interested in coming to school and are bent on disrupting class. When you add in the lack of parental support and a diverse student population, you might begin to see that this job is a challenge.

You seem to be enamored with the superintendents that couldn't make it around here. Dr. Fischer and Portia Bonner DID NOT WANT TO WORK WITH TEACHERS! Both hired thugs that masquerade as principals. Maybe Nick Fischer needs a PR guy down there in New London? Maybe Portia will hire you when she finally lands a new gig? You will have to relocate to follow her though. She is a finalist in Youngstown, Ohio right now. If someone does a simple Google search on her, Portia will probably be out of the running.

I know you are frustrated Jack. You tried talk radio in this market. You were boring. You still haven't made it to a major newspaper. So you pick on the hard working teachers of New Bedford. We are the scapegoats you use to try to advance your career. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Thanks for your time,
The Watch Dog

P.S. Mayor Lang and Dr. Walsh are not afraid of the union. As for the teachers that did not speak to the press following the meeting, we did that out of respect for the superintendent and school committee. They needed to hear about the vote directly from our leadership team!

Well done watch dog. Jack Spillane may not have a personality for radio but he has a face for it. Of all the people in the world to pick on he chooses to attack teachers, this is shocking. I've never heard him call out gang leaders, or drug dealers, or corrupt individuals. What is so terrifying about a group of highly educated people that have devoted their professional lives to helping kids. You're the same guy that would criticize the Patriots for not paying player "X" his well deserved $10 million dollar contract, but it bothers that a teacher dedicated to helping the kids of this city may earn $50,000. Have you taken a pay cut Jack? You are a creep and a bully. There is a good working relationship in the city and you want to start problems that do not exist.

Well done Watchdog!! Apparently Jack has forgotten who educated him.

Clearly Jack has long had an issue with teachers. Who would write "Ahm ... not" in a supposedly serious column? Journalism is suffering a bigger crisis than education, it seems.

Hey I can use Jack's articles to teach my students about Ethics in Journalism! Thanks Jack, for showing my kids exactly what not to do. They most definitely could teach you a few things about ethics and responsibility in reporting. Get your facts accurate before you get sued or fired. I would imagine even the substandard times has a limit to how low they will sink. I am going to post the "Definition of a Hack" with your picture right next to it! Thanks!

Does this moron realize that his article is riddled with inaccuracies? What trash. If a teacher did this he'd demand their termination..... I wonder how many angry letters and phone calls to the substandard times it would take to get Jack fired?

Am I the only that thinks Spilliane is laughing his ---- off as we play rigt into his hands!
