The Standard Times does another flip-flop and they hope you won't notice. While Portia Bonner was here, the ST did everything they could to protect her. They knew about her work history in Hamden Ct. but sat on the information while publicly praising her. It wasn't until she resigned that they questioned her abilities.
I can't help but feel sorry for Portia. Now that she's looking everywhere for a job they keep bringing her name up which will only hurt her chances of getting a job as superintendent.
Is the following statement a complement or an insult? "While she was in over her head in running a school district with more than 12,000 students and political complexities she was ill-equipped to manage, she also recognized the need for deep and significant changes in the ways that the New Bedford Public Schools teach the city's children.”
Shame on the Standard Times for perpetuating mediocrity.
I love how they write themselves out of the Bonner mess. They pushed for an outside genius to fix things. They combined with the paranoid community activists to convince Bonner that there was some huge plot against her - before she even arrived. Trouble is, she then turned on the same activists and "experts" and "reform minded" Asst Supers.
Shame on you Joe-Let it go! She is gone while we are here in a mess that can't be blamed on a 1 year Super. How about discussing the DESE's take on NBSD today!

The ST agenda is so obvious. Create crises and you sell more newspapers. Again, it’s all about money.
