Dr. Francis announced that a .5 FTE educational monitor has been hired by the state to work with the district. A "turnaround" plan should be ready in August
The "turnaround' plan for Parker School has been approved by the DESE.
The student rep, Justin Braga, announced that students at NBHS will have the opportunity to join three committees in the fall. One is an Education Reform Committee. Braga also revealed details about a "Capturing the American Dream Through Education" rally that could be held this fall in Downtown New Bedford. This would feature student performances and speeches from dignitaries.
During the personnel report, Mayor Lang told the the Human Resources Manager that correction plans for any in-district transfers should follow the teachers to their new schools and copies should be placed in their personnel files.
Dr. Finnerty asked how long a person could own a position without actually serving in it. When he was told it was two years, Finnerty added that some teachers have been reassigned for the past decade. Dr. Finnerty said it was cumbersome and not the best situation for student performance because new teachers cannot be hired in a timely fashion. He also asked if this was the result of impact bargaining or past practice. Mayor Lang replied these issues could be discussed with the city's labor attorney, Mr. Arthur Caron, in Executive Session.
The committee adjourned to Executive Session at 9:13 P.M.

Why is it the personnel reports no longer appear or are attached to the School Committee Agenda??? Aren't they public record?
Personnel reports are posted on the NBEA web site.
