Lou St. John's Letter to United Interfaith Action

August 12, 2011

Sr. Marianna Sylvester

Elizabeth Aeschlimann
Staff Organizer for UIA

This is to inform you that the New Bedford Educators Association has received your letter dated August 5, 2011 requesting my presence at an upcoming UIA sponsored event.

The NBEA continues to receive mixed messages from the UIA. To NBEA, you express a willingness to forge a partnership with the city’s educators for the benefit of our students. However, internal communications within UIA paint a different picture. In a recent e-mail, the NBEA president is referred to as a “barrier” that “protects the status quo.” There are even directives to some NBEA members on how they should engage union leadership and other teachers. This is clearly not the way you treat a prospective partner.

On May 8, 2011, the NBEA Board of Directors made its position clear and asked United Interfaith Action to publicly denounce all the negative statements made against our teachers, New Bedford Public Schools, and the New Bedford Educators Association. Until this happens, there can be no meaningful dialogue between the NBEA and the UIA.

I await your response.

Yours truly,

Louis St. John
President

UIA operates under the guise of being a religious group. Their tactics are anti-Christian. These hypocrites seek to take over the NBPS. We cannot let them control New Bedford's education agenda. Unfortunately, there are some NBEA members that are part of UIA. They are "Judases." What has UIA promised them? Will they run these small autonomous schools?

NBEA must stand strong against the UIA bullies. They are nothing but a pack of wolves in sheeps clothing.

It doesn't surprise me that some have been brain washed by that cult. Let's not forget about all the evil that has been done against mankind in the name of religion.

UIA must be judged by the company they keep.

NBEA, don't back down.

I am quite happy with the letter. Not happy with watchdog playing his loyalty test again. Dude, we get it. You are the bestest NBEA member. You get a star.

If all union members were as dedicated to the union as Watchdog appears to be, politicians would quiver when teachers speak.

As long as people have existed there have been false prophets and as long as formal education has existed there have been education consultants. Since the weak-minded need to feel a sense of belonging they make for good prey. The formula is simple. First, they brainwash their followers with lies and then they create the illusion that a crisis exists. False prophets will convince their followers that their blind obedience is necessary for God’s work to be done and education consultants will tell you that their deeds are for the good of the “children”. By the time the followers catch on, if they ever do, it is often too late and the damage is done.

What about separation of church and state? As a teacher I can not discuss any religious beliefs except under the realm of teaching cultures via Social Studies/Geography! I truly believe that the UIA has a hidden agenda as much as they will say they don't.

Weak minded is the key descriptor here. Both religion and politics thrive upon it. The former far more dangerous in my opinion. "Opiate of the masses" was how one wise man put it. This is just a way for private religious interest groups to dip their dirty fingers into public education. Excuse me but aren't most private parochial schools shutting down due to lack of enrollment? (really inspires so much confidence in their ability to run a school, don't you think?) Well isn't this a convenient transition for them? With all due respect, this is why we have a separation between church and state. I'll keep my opinions about organized religion and they can keep their opinions about public education. We have enough corruption to deal with already thank you very much. And thank you Lou for calling them out on their hypocrisy and lies!

In my opinion the UIA is poison.

The high school Judas should be thrown out of the union.

I'm amazed that some of our own members would sell us out to the UIA.

Judases, bullies, sheeps, wolves, Somerset, the doings of the past Super? Are you kidding me? No wonder we have problems. If you want to be treated like a serious group perhaps start by acting like one. I, and others are looking for information and possible answers. Start facing forward and work on the present. In other words keep you eyes on your own paper.

The ones who preach "religion " are usually the biggest phonies! They use the guise-In God's name-I find these people to be total idiots.

Again... blind followers, don't drink the Kool Aid!
