Who is this guy kidding when he says, “Global Learning has a strong record of academic achievement and ranks among the top performing schools in the district”, most of their students drop out by 9th grade.
When will the school committee, the mayor, or the superintendent issue a statement about the charter school scam or will they simply hand over our schools over to the charter school folks?
In my opinion the S. C. is more interested in play nice with those people rather then standing up for the district they represent. Neither of them cares about the district, they are more concerned with re-elections then serving the children of New Bedford.
When will you speak up against what the charter schools are doing to our district or will you sit quietly on the sidelines waiting for someone else to do it?
This brings up a larger issue. Lou St. John, Scott Lang, Dr. Fletcher, and the teachers that spoke at the education forum are the only people that publicly defend the NBPS and its dedicated teachers. The silence from most SC members and the superintendent is disheartening.
At least Furtado tried to use cherry picked data. This guy isnt even trying. Reread each paragraph. Where does he engage with the facts? He is the one using tired arguments, this time against the union. The bottom line is that charters cannot exist without a public school to use as a dumping ground.
Marc Kenen should read the data before making such a statement about the Global Learning Charter School's success. If they were successful they would have graduated more then 56 students.
According, to their web site, the 56 Massachusetts charter public schools are dues paying members of his organization. Sounds like a union, doesn't it?
In 2002, The Massachusetts Charter Public School Association achieved a "critical goal: 100% of Massachusetts charter schools as dues paying members." It seems their goal is to collect dues.

The day this union supports charter schools will be the day I stop being a member.
Mitchell has been very quiet on this issue. I guess we have another politician on our hands.

Keen is right. Global Learning Charter school has successfully taken millions of dollars from New Bedford public schools.
