We could implement smaller learning academies withion the parameters of the current contract as was done with the Technology Academy at NBHS. This is just a way of the UIA bullying it's way into NBPS.
This idea still does not address the problem of attendance. Unitl someone (the state lawmakers) holds the parents and students accountable for coming to school, attending their clasees, and behaving appropriately, then the same problems would still be in existance.
Unfortunately, as a society, we have enabled this behavior of "expecteds". They expect to be given everything, but not have to work for it. It is a crying shame to have students at the High school level with a third grade reading level- but why were they promoted from elementary and middle school? Because administration says the State will flag our retention rates. Why not let us deal with the problems rather than pass them on? This isn't indicative to NBPS, it's across the Commonwealth. Blame the policy makers for not letting the educators really educate. Not all students learn the same way, at the same rate. SO why not let us establish some programs that could work? Like a bridge school for those students not socially, or educationally ready for high school? What about the english language learners? Sheltered English Immersion doesn't wotk for all of them either. Why not ask the opinion of those who are actually entrenched in the job and working with these population their ideas and opinions?
