A woman who has spent two decades avoiding actually teaching and learning, all while she advised, evaluated, and researched teaching and learning is the last person to ask about district reform.
I'm listening to a rebroadcast of the mayor's speech. I thank him for his words of support for the teaching corps in the NBPS. However, actions speak louder than words. I hope he will support our efforts for a fair and equitable contract.
Why can't the Mayor ever say anything positive about our school district? What about the Engineering Academy going to the international contest two years in a row, what about the ROTC, new initiative with BSU, etc. No, he is always painting the doom and gloom picture. Maybe he is hoping for a state takeover. Personally, I am fed up with this negativity!
To the first post, are you for real in thanking the mayor!!!!
Today it is Mary Lou Francis on the firing line; however, once he is done with her, we will be the next ones on the firing line. We are the ones teaching the students and preparing them for MCAS. We are the ones passing students on to the next grade. If the students fail MCAS, it will be the fault of the teachers for not doing their job. Think about it.
I had the opportunity to watch the third mayoral forum on the NBPS. I encourage everyone to view it for yourself on the Channel 17/Public Access website. Lou did a great job defending our district. The mayor drew first blood in an exchange the S-T labeled "testy." Some other observations: 1. The Alma del Mar Charter School should be billed for advertising time. I despise it when groups use children for their political agendas. 2. The student rep for the school committee is the high priest of a new cult I call "Mitchellism." The kid may be bright, but he needs wisdom and experience (that comes with age) that would expose the flaws in our new mayor's leadership style.

Have you see a more PR focused mayor?
His words actions speak volumes. I agree with the last post, all he's doing is damage control.
If you heard about the FFP's "Whaling Museum incident" on day 2 of his Mayorship, then you would know about his obsession with PR.
The education roundtable is now running city hall. Carolee just had another meeting Mitchell.
