This article has many inaccuracies. When was the last time a kid had to go to summer school for a "D?" That does not happen. Just because this is the policy doesn't mean it is a reality. It is up to the principal to decide what ultimately happens. Thus, they are pushed along.
Ms. Anderson leaves much to be desired as a journalist.

Bonneau has nerve. How can she say these things and then blame teachers for giving kids bad grades? How can she say these things and then pressure teachers to pass kids who should be failing? How can she say these things while enabling the misbehaving students who ruin the educational environment for their classmates? For shame.

I agree with the watchdog. Ms. Anderson does not seem to get the big picture. Her articles are about discrediting nbps, they have nothing to do with the facts.

Unger seems to have taken what could have been a fine reporter and made her a propaganda bs artist.

I agree with the point about Normandin. Despite what Bonneau says, she makes teachers feel like they have failed if kids don't pass, just like she makes teachers feel inadequate if they call for administrative assistance (unless you happen to be ** ********).

Sounds to me like Jeanne won't make 50 years in education...

Cahris is finally making a connection to the Middles Schools, however, she is not placing the blame where it belongs... Connect the dots Charis like a good reporter would do... I hear Susan Hogan is pretty good at investigative reports, ask if you can intern

Ms. Anderson should expend her efforts on reporting about the problems at Normandin and Roosevelt.
A Roosevelt teacher's car had its back window blown out by a high powered BB gun. The principal's response was that the teacher should not have parked there. The parking lot is school property. Vandalism is also increasing in the building. Yet, everything is swept under the rug.

If Bonneau really cared about the students and staff like she tells the world, she would leave and allow Normandin to resume the business of educating children. Right now, morale is so low. Kids don't listen to her and teachers just try to avoid her.

It is all going to come down to the classroom teachers.

I find the Standard Times are very bias and report incorrect facts. However, Bonneau is correct when she said students do attend the extended year program. But what she fails to say is its a farce. Students will receive a watered down curriculum which does not cover the important standards. Students will play card games or they talk about whatever..They are passed along. Students want to attend the summer program because they say its "easy".Is that assessing their true ability? No

Why are these middle school principals continuously allowed to fabricate things on paper that sound great, but in reality DO NOT EXIST!! I thought the superintendent was a person of integrity....

I've had students who went to the summer program at Normandin. What did they do there? Mostly played on the computers. Maybe made a poster. And they don't teach science there in the summer. So what happens to a kid who failed that subject during the year? How about a model of a volcano. Very academically rigorous. Please stop pretending, Dr. Bonneau.

The summer school at Normandin is a joke. Kids know they can coast all year, fail, attend the summer program and get promoted. Most of these kids are the ones disrupting classes during the regular school year, hurting the educational opportunities of the students who want to learn. Their reward? A book report, a computer game and a trip to the 9th grade!!! These kids don't need summer school. They need an alternative school.

Or maybe what these students need is a principal who won't put up with the nonsense that has made Normandin so chaotic.

Bonneau has a soft spot for the so-called troublemakers becuase, as she likes to tell everyone, she used to be one herself. And now look at all the degrees she has! The problem is Normandin is now run by these troublemakers. Want to improve education at Normandin? Remove Bonneau and find someone who respects teachers and encourages real education by instilling discipline.

I know some Normandin teachers used to say the devil you know is better than the one you don't. Not many say that these days. Bonneau has to leave.

Dr. Bonneau should be given some data crunching job downtown and let Normandin become a place of happy learning and teaching. One of the previous commenters was right in saying the kids have tuned her out. When she does the announcments, the kids just talk over her. When ***** ******, an assistant principal who actually handles discipline, does the announcements, the kids are quiet.

Does anyone have any idea when we'll find out of these principals will be allowed to stay and further damage our schools? I'm really worried that after Dr. Francis leaves nothing will be done about the people who are really doing the harm.

Mitchell should have targeted Bonneau and Fernandes instead of Dr. Francis. That would have been politically and educationally wise.
