Wow! I can't believe that the so-called "Stand for Children" group has been allowed to become as powerful as it has! People! Stand up for your jobs and the rights of the students you teach to have teachers who are highly qualified and seasoned veterans! The thinking in this Standard Times article is flawed -- to say that a mass exodus of people out of urban areas to suburban ones are all school related is entirely false...many people who move to the suburbs are doing so to get away from unemployment and crime in areas such as New Bedford, and to move closer to either the Providence and Boston areas for work, but to enjoy the ability to live in a possibly more quiet area. Others who remain in the city simply move from one end to the other just trying to keep a roof over their children's heads. As for a large percentage of the people agreeing with the Stand for Children referendum, well, you would too if you had heard the non-educator-represented spiel that was being thrown at supermarket customers last summer at Market Basket by the Stand for Children group...they pretty much lied to everyone to get them to sign their petition so that they could get this passed at the State level. Everyone should be chomping at the bit to shut these people down before they ruin what's left of the education process in this state!

Don't care how great of a teacher you are, you can't teach to someone who doesn't want to learn. It all starts at home!!
