To The ELECTED Members of the School Committee, the Press, Elected Officials and Public
During Jon Mitchell’s campaign for Mayor he characterized You as a Cast of Fools that did nothing for New Bedford Schools or it’s children. It’s no secret to Elected School Committe Members and the PUBLIC that Mayor Jon Mitchell used every public opportunity as well as every debate and so-called Mayor's Educational Forums to Criticize. You as a whole. I know You were offended by his attacks as some of You mentioned it to me and that his anti-School Committee rhetoric as way over the top, undignified, and humiliating.
How quickly some of the Elected School Committee members forgot! Mitchell seemed to have drawn a negative opinion of You in spite of the fact that he never attended one full School Committee meeting during the campaign; however, he did drop in part way through the evaluation meeting of Dr. Francis. During his first School Committee as Mayor at the Pulaski, school, Chairman of the School Committee Mitchell, announced to everyone in the audience, that he did not know Roberts Rules of Order. I along with a few other people was stunned to hear that announcement. Why didn’t he bone-up on Roberts Rules of Order? You would have thought he would have since he is the Chair of the School Committee.
One can only surmise that Mitchell never even watched the School Committee meetings on TV. So then how could he draw such a negative opinion of of Veteran Elected School Committee Members? Who is advising Mayor Mitchell, as to what to say? unofficial Deputy Mayor Neil Mello?
If my memory serves me correctly, Jon Mitchell throughout his campaign said he was going to streamline the School Committee meetings. Well, the regular meetings have gone from about 2 or 2 ½ hours to 4 hours. Is that what he calls streamlining?
During his campaign Mitchell never mentioned the Superintendent during his Public Attacks because his poison was directed at You. Now that he is Mayor, Jon Mitchell, have shifted his attacks to the Superintendent, and has left You off the hook, that is for now. Are you so relieved to be under his radar that You will now turn a blind eye to what he’s doing to the Superintendent. Is Dr. Francis not the same Superintendent that you just gave a glowing evaluation a few months ago?
Did the high scores You gave the Superintendent, mean nothing? How about all the positive things You said about her, did they mean nothing? Since five of you (the Elected School Committee) have been on the School Committee for years.
Why are all of the New Bedford’s problems now the Superintendent’s fault? Are You not the Superintendent's of New Bedford Public Schools, boss?
Haven’t You for the years you have been on the School Committee been dictating to her Your will based on Your policies?
Is Jon Mitchell treating you like a bunch of puppets? He is pulling the strings and You are dancing to his handling. Did Mayor & Chairman of New Bedford's Elected School Committee Jon Mitchell, bother to inform You that he planned to meet with Mitchell Chester in Boston or did you learn about the meeting after the fact?
Did Mayor/Chair of Elected School Committee, inform you that he planned to ask Massachuestt Education Commissinor, Chester Mitchell for an extension for the submission of the plan or did you read about it in the paper like I did? Was Mitchell afraid the Superintendent's/Administration plan would be accepted and he wanted to delay the submission? Did Garrett Smith’s statements, which vindicated the Superintendent, scare Mayor Mitchell?
Did Mitchell really think he could bully the Superintendent into resigning in 48 hours?
What kind of leader is Jon Mitchell?
John Bullard and the Education Roundtable refer to Jon Mitchell as courageous.
That’s certainly not how I would characterize a man who had done everything in his power to ruin Dr. Francis’s good name and reputation while You, with a couple exceptions, have sat by and watched without comment. Bullying is never accepted regardless of who’s doing it.
Did Mayor Mitchell violate the Open Meeting Law by having private discussions with individual members of the School Committee to get what he wants? Are you prepared to swear in Court that he didn’t contact You to solicit your support against the Superintendent?
Dr. Finnerty admitted it publicly, are You willing to perjure yourself and say he didn't?
If Jon Mitchell speaks for all of YOU, all the time and YOU just rubber stamp his will, then YOU have let the Citizens of New Bedford down. We elected YOU and we expect that YOU should do YOUR job. We didn’t elect YOU to be Mitchell’s servant and New Bedford isn’t Mitchell’s Plantation.
As Citizens we also expect to be allowed to speak at the School Committee meeting as was voted by the School Committee.
Perhaps, Eddie...rather than being a constant complainer YOU should run for a School Committee post. I, for one, am tired of your rhetoric. Hate what is happening so much? Get your name on a future ballot.
At least Eddie is speaking his mind. As I see it, if the ouster of Francis is the political prize, and the horrible principals in a few of our schools are allowed to skate, we will all lose out. Nothing, except a silly power play, will have been accomplished.
I saw the nbhs judas with the school committee kid at the school committee tonight. Fyi: The kid is now a card carrying member of the education roundtable.
The SC kid is definitely the high priest of the Mitchell cult. I bet he has a Mitchell shrine in his house. Then again, that kid will kiss the butts of anyone in power. He should be loyal to all of the dedicated teachers in our school system that helped him. Instead, the young man has allied himself with the forces that seek to destroy us.

Well!! The people of NB was just FLIM-FLAMMED tonight by mayor! He called it an "open meeting" - yeah, just to adjourn in 10 minutes!!
The NBHS judas is also a full supporter of the UIA's innovation schools. Last night in my opinion, he seemed delighted at what was transpiring.
Someone should file a 51A against the NBHS Judas... you know he's slipping the SC Kid some kool aid...
