Word on the street is that the CEO Council, which wrote an unsigned letter which appeared in the standard times on April 3 doesn't really exist.
It seems that our mayor called some random CEOs which he know he could count on and asked them to write the letter.
Sources say the letter was written quickly because the mayor wanted the letter published on April 3, the day of the special school committee meeting, so he could use its contents as a leverage against the superintendent.
How many times have we heard the mayor say he doesn't want to point fingers or blame a single person for the problems that exist in education? So why is he pointing the finger at Francis and blaming her?
According to the standard times,in reference to the turnaround plan, "Mitchell said he had not communicated to the superintendent his intent to ask for an extension, nor the fact the state granted it, because those facts had been widely publicized in The Standard-Times and on the radio."
Is this how the mayor Mitchell communicates with the superintendent and other department heads, in the paper and on the radio?
Neil: Take a message. I want to meet with the chief of police. Put out a press release in in the standard times and on wbsm so that I can meet with him at 2:00 p.m. on Friday the 11th.Oh yeah, tell him he better not be late for the meeting.
On January 04, 2011, Marlene Pollack said that Francis had done an excellent job at bringing together various constituencies affected by the School Department.
"Dr. Francis has been open and flexible: This has helped her bridge many divides," said Pollack. "She deserves our support."
Marlene, are you now a part of the political machine? Is that why you've been silent about what mitch is doing?
Jack Nobrega - "I believe she has done an outstanding job as superintendent under difficult conditions," said committee member Jack Nobrega Monday night. "I strongly recommend that Dr. Francis be given a three-year contract so that she can continue to move the New Bedford school system in the right direction."
I am very dismayed at the way the Mayor has derailed the school committee meetings, turning them from public open forums, to doing everything from placing the public comments portion at the end of the meetings, to covertly handling the superintendent's "sentencing" in executive sessions behind closed doors. Transparency, my eye!
The mayor needs a scalp. He seeks convictions. His whole neighborhood rejuvenation is about prosecuting people. He put the Health director on trial and now creates a kangaroo court for the super. In judicial terms, Lang was an advocate who stood up on behalf of the little people; Mitchell was a federally paid prosecutor who followed orders on who to pursue. Get used to it.
we were at a mentoring meeting yesterday (Apr. 11) at Keith... they told us we had to end early because there was a school committee meeting- thought the next one wasn't til May? Is Mitchell pulling more shady dealsings behind the public's back?

On July 19, 2011, John Mitchell said that there are many good things going on in the city system.
“There are not major steps that need to be taken but there are many steps that need to be taken now,”
Jon, is firing the superintendent a "major step"?
