Are Backroom deals and violations of the open meeting law, what we can expect from the Honorable Jon Mitchell? Why is the Standard Times not reporting on any of this?
It is wonderful they have $200,000.00 to spend on her departure! To bad they are never able to come up with that kind of money for textbooks and other supplies for the students and staff of the New Bedford Public Schools!!! Believe me, she is not worth it!
She supposedly loves and cares for the staff and students in the district...really? You would take that much money for doing nothing? How many teachers will get pink slipped? How many paras? As mentioned earlier what about books and supplies? Yes, you love the district so you take as much as you can from them. So so sad.
If you think the figure is $200,000 you are sadly mistaken. What wasn't mentioned was the cost of paying someone to be acting supt and other hidden costs. In my opinion, I would have demanded being paid for the duration of my legally binding contract instead of settling. The members of the S/C gave her a glowing evaluation. That is like giving you a great evaluation and then a year and a few months later giving you your walking papers.
What is going on behind the scene to which we are not privy. Oh, according to Mitchell, Mr. Shea will have the students respecting the teachers as they do at Voke. RIGHT!!! Remember when Voke's problem students get booted out, they come into NBHS. Keep that in mind!!!!
Why doesn't Mitchell just approve the Turnaround plan, then he can get the School Committee to approve the decision afterwards. That's the new voting structure. So much for the powerful, diverse, community voices like Livramento and Pollock, quaking in their shoes that Mitchell won't support their pet political groups, Nobrega asleep and backing Markey Mitchell. And where's the courageous Standard Times? plenty of time to micromanage Francis but afraid to question Mitchell's pre approval of every school committee decision? pathetic
Mr. Shea is in for an education... he ran one school- a high school in which he could boot those students who did not meet academic or behavioral standards. And guess where he sent them? NBHS! What experience does he have with Elementary and Middle School? Talk about over twenty schools vs one... I would say no thanks Mr. Shea and just enjoy your retirement.
I sooooooo wished MaryLou would have taken them to court and sued their pompous asses! Pollak and Livramento sat there all smiles and smug... Sister Marianna was cozying up to the new reporter assigned to education... something tells me there is an alterior motive!
sad to see her go... remember DESE said the School Committee was the biggest hindrance to NBPS success. Why hasn't FFP looked inot the City Charter and restructured the School Committee? Same boobs are still there...
I realize that you are all very sad about the superintendent getting "pushed out" of her position but let me ask this question... What did she do about the huge scandal with Dr. Bonneau at Normandin? Many, many staff members were called downtown for interviews and it went on for months and then... what? She told her she could stay and finish out her contract. I do not believe that the answer is Shea either. I wish we could actually get someone in the position that had the strength to do what is needed to turn this district around and to make the necessary decisions DESPITE long time friendships.
I worry that Shea will be so focused on big-picture issues, such as getting bureaucratic plans to DESE, that he will not have a clue that the real problems are the bad principals. You can send the most polished report to Boston. If Bonneau stays, none of it will matter (at least at Normandin). Then again, maybe Shea knows Normandin very well because of all the students who have gone to Voc from there. If he knows anything, he'll give Normandin a breath of fresh air. I also haven't heard anything about the results of the downtown investigation, except for the promise that Bonneau could stay. What a huge disappointment, for the students and staff.
Bonneau wants to add 1 more year to her reign of terror. So, because she is hung up on reaching 50 years of employment, all of the teachers and students have to suffer for another full year. Normandin has a very curious staffing arrangement. Every 7th and 8th grade pod has 4 teachers except for 1. The pod where her daughter teaches has 5 teachers. So while every other group in the building has the same number of students with 4 teachers, her ******** is allowed to split an ELA class with another teacher and teach only half as many students. How random this arrangement must have been. Normandin is by far the absolute worst school in the district to teach in and I feel so sorry for the students that want to learn but cannot because of the inability of the person in charge. There is literally nothing a student can do to get themselves into serious trouble. Teachers are powerless and their professional ability is challenged whenever they attempt to maintain order. Final point, I on
Bonneau is not the only problem at Normandin, it is the entire ************* staff. How about an entire upheavel? Replacing administration is the only chance normandin has. The issues there are so severe. If they want to honor Bonneau's contract then find somewhere to put her next year where she can't harm more students. The students only act the way they do because there is NO discipline. They have no idea how to act appropriately...just visit the lunchrooms on any given day.
It's too bad so many parents don't know or care what is happening at Normandin. If my own kids came home and told me about the unsafe, chaotic hallways, the lack of discpline, and the fact that students are being denied a proper education because of other kids who get away with everything, I'd be on the phone in a second. Those calls aren't being made nearly enough. That leaves the school committee. They better show some real leadership and show Bonneau the door. Yes, she has a contract, but so did Dr. Francis. The school has really deteriorated in recent years. I've been around a long time and it hurts to see it.
Roosevelt has many problems too. Our principal also needs to go. The RMS principal has fooled many in the community, including Pollock and Livramento, into thinking that she is competent and caring. God help us if she is allowed to stay.
I hope the interim super is more than a placesetter and that he's allowed to make bold and necessary decisions, like getting rid of the bad principals. I don't care about Bonneau's contract. The school is suffering because of her.
What in God's name is the School Committee doing? We are 1.7 million dollars in the hole and they are waiting to act. Mitchell state level funding! Is the print shop at PRAB going to print cash now?
Hopefully Shea will put rooms in all three middle schools for in school suspension...we need similar rooms for consequences...like Tank at Voc. Get rid of the unsuccessful center at Normandin, it us a joke. They listen to iPods, play in computers, go to unified arts classes, eat lunch with friends in cafeteria. What type of remediation is that? Kids beg to go there!

The deal includes a $200,000 severance package, sick days and a vacation. It's a good thing the city has money to burn!
Mayor Jon Mitchell is obviously a fiscal conservative.
I heard him say on WBSM this morning that $200,000 is a drop in the bucket. I wish my bucket was as big as his.

Take money? You mean the money owed to her by contract? Do you teach economics?

Remember thosw boobs have been elected by the voters!

Neither students nor staff pay much attention to Bonneau. If this were a business, she would have been gone long ago.
"she was told she could finish out her contract." or, more likely, she is on a contract. Period. Cease fantasizing about non existent occurrences.
Is anyone talking about nepotism at Normandin?
heard Shea is neighbors with FFP's mom in Dartmouth... plot thickens...

Bonneau always tells students how much she loves them. And they hate her. The reasons are endless. Hear what they have to say. Is anyone listening?
