Openline Weekend, What are your thoughts?

Speaking of the technological upgrade that NBHS so desperately needs, I heard an ugly rumor that money from that department is being diverted to the mayor's office to improve technology there. I would not be surprised in the least if this is actually true. Just like the $40,000 in RTTT money that was supposed to go to the ELA department for books and resources. What happened to that money? Well rumor has it that it went to the "Where are you Headed" campaign. That's nice. That doesn't seem like a conflict of interest at all. And all for a 2% increase in attendance. Are those even our own students on those billboards? No teacher I've spoken to recognizes them. Those aren't NBHS grad robes either. Call me crazy but why didn't they use our own kids? This district is a mess.

Why is John Saunders in the back pocket of John Mitchell?

Paul Toner, the compromiser, has harmed our members more then all past mta presidents combined. What will Paul Toner give away next?

Paul Toner is a Judas to his members, even those to ignorant to know it.

Real shame people can freely write rumor and complete nonsense about funds and programs. Thran55 is a liar who should write for the Standard Times

I want to know Mr. Shea's plans with Normandin. The school is a complete mess. Someone from downtown and the DOE made a surprise visit on Friday, and they witnessed the circus firsthand.

To the last comment...there was a surprise visit? I.hope that is true, they should come to the promotion ceremony and see that circus first hand. Whatever happened with the investigation of the principal? We never heard a thing and it is business as usual, no discipline, inflation of grades, passing students along, the inmates running the asylum. What a mess, we need to have severe change and it needs to happen now so that kids can can learn and teachers can teach. Use the success center as a deterrent not a playground, get new administration, and staff stick together to.fix this mess....for us but especially for the kids.

The Fall River Herald reported that a Westport School Committee Member was arrested in Swansea for OUI. Upon reading the article I learned that this school committee member is Education Roundtable Member Craig Dutra's wife. Why am I posting this here? Because the self-righteous, Craig Dutra was in the passenger seat.

What was he thinking letting his wife drive under the influence? How many "children" did he and his wife's actions put at risk? How many parents might have been killed by them? Thank God that off duty police was there to arrest her.

They both should resign.

The paper goes on to say, "Swansea Patrolman Joseph Faria transported Dutra to the Swansea Police Station to make arrangements for a ride. The report indicated Dutra was also under the influence of alcohol. Africano was handcuffed, booked at the Swansea Police Station and placed in a cell."

An article also appeared in the standard times about the arrest but they sanitized the information? Is the standard times protecting Craig Dutra because of his affiliation to the education roundtable?

If I recall correctly, Craig Dutra wrote an editorial pushing for merit pay in New Bedford Public Schools.

Dutra claims to love the "children" and then his wife is arrested for a DUI while he's in the vehicle. Doesn't he understand someone could have gotten killed? What does the Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts have to say about that?

Don't take joy in another's misfortune. We won't win an education debate by counting up the number of OUIs of spouses. Geez.

Anonymous said...

I don't take joy in his misfortune but he's a pious ### and ###### ############. He's been criticizing teachers ever since he joined the roundtable and he deserves what he gets unfortunately, they'll probably get away with it.

Anonymous said...

Because he has strong and misguided opinion he deserves what he gets? That's your logic?

Anonymous said...

My guess is that Dutra's wife will get away with the drunk diving charges. We all know her high-profile position will be taken into account by the judge who will then dismiss the case.

Cronyism at its best!

The police report indicated Dutra was also under the influence of alcohol.

So is it safe to assume that Dutra was even more drunk than his wife, since she was driving?

Anonymous said...

But Dutra loves education so much, he gives his all to the "children".

Anonymous said...

How intoxicated are you when you pass your home exit by 12 miles?

Anonymous said...

There is no excuse for driving drunk. Dutra and his wife are elected officials and they should be held to to the same legal standards as everyone else. Will they? I think not.

What a shame. Carolina and Craig look down their noses at us in Westport. What kind of example have these high and mighty duo set for their own 5 children? Thank Goodness the kids weren't in the car with them. Thank goodness for the forsight of the off duty police officer to try and get them off the road.

Anonymous said...

I know the arresting officer... may have to make a phone call....

Carolina is an attorney... guess she knew better than to take the breathalyzer. Wondered if the FFP's fundraiser was worth it... bet it's now costing more than $200

Anonymous said...

That must be how FFP rolls.... get 'em good and liquored up so they sign bigger checks!

That's nothing...The principal at Roosevelt held a secret UIA meeting in the school building during the April vacation! Isn't this a conflict of interest? Why is this happening? And did anyone get a glimpse of the two school committee members who showed up at the Roosevelt Celebration of Success the other day? Jack Levrimento and Marlene Pollock. Hmmm...I wonder what the principal was shooting for there? Probably trying to court favor with school committee members to save her job. Oh, I get it...the celebration was all about HER success...

Thrann55 must've touched a nerve -- I guess someone who works at PRAB couldn't handle being exposed.
