Please support the Neediest Families Fund.

Dear Colleagues,

As you probably know, the Standard Times sponsors the Neediest Families Fund every year. They hope to raise $200,000 this year, and it is going to be very tough in year 4 of a bad economy that has lots of local non-profits hurting. Next Saturday they kick the NFF drive off with the third annual Soup Bowl Supper from 5 to 9 p.m. at the United Fishermen’s Club.

Tickets are $50 and if you go, you get soup donated by New Bedford area restaurants and a hand-thrown, one-of-a-kind bowl by local artisan Seth Rainville. All the money goes to the Neediest Families Fund, which serves local kids that are probably taught by teachers who are members of the New Bedford Educators Association. If they don’t raise the money, then local families don’t get their clothing and food vouchers, and kids don’t get their Christmas gifts.

Please support the Neediest Families Fund.

Lou

Teachers should support other charities. The S-T does not appreciate New Bedford's educators.

I used to contribute $300-$400 per holiday season to the Neediest Families Fund. When the S-T began their attacks on teachers, I opted to give my money to another charity. While I believe that the fund does good work for people, I can't provide monetary support for an S-T PR campaign.
