One member of Mayor Mitchell's handpicked Superintendent Search Committee is alleged to have participated in a cover-up of standardized testing cheating.
Joshua Edelman, who now works for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, once served as an official in the Washington D.C. Public Schools. While in D.C., Edelman was the Deputy Chief in the Office of School Innovation. A former principal at a D.C. public school claims she found three staffers with pencil erasers ready to change answers on test answer sheets. The principal, Adell Cothorne, says she telephoned Edelman and another district official with her report. However, Cothorne's story apparently was never relayed to then-acting schools chancellor Kaya Henderson. A D.C. schools spokeswoman told the Washington Post that Mr. Edelman and his colleague deny hearing from Ms. Cothorne about the incident.
