The Intergalactic search for New Bedford's next superintendent of schools is entering its final phase. As you probably know, the three finalists were announced at last night's School Committee meeting. All of them are from outside the district. In fact, there was only one applicant from within the New Bedford Public Schools.
The finalists are:
- Dr. Kriner Cash, former Superintendent of Memphis City Schools
- Dr. Pia Durkin, Superintendent of Schools in Attleboro
- Dr. Steve Zrike, Chief of Schools for the Pilsen-Little Village Elementary Network, Chicago Public Schools

You've got to be kidding! This is it? These three were tossed out from where they came from and we are to consider them successful superintendents. God almighty, please help up us.

They really scraped the bottom of the barrel to find these 3.
This school committee will never learn. Let's set aside a few hundred thousand so we can buyout another superintendent's contract. We just have so much money to p$$s into the wind. The writing is on the wall.
Again....a nationwide search for cast-offs...or worse?
We PAID an agency to attract and whittle down applicants?
I fear the future...I pity our staff and students.
Please VOTE every member of the School Co OUT at the next opportunity. This is why we need more NBPS staff that live in the district so they can VOTE here and alter the course for our schools!
I hope that the members of the School Committee will do their homework and do a thorough check these individuals instad of blindly following the recommendation of the search company. In my opinion, they should visit the district, talk to the parents and teachers,look up articles regarding these finalists, and ask the question "Why do you wish to leave your position and move to another location?" If the members had done their homework when they hired Portia Bonner things might have turned out differently.
To the members of the School Committee who read this blog, do your homework.

It just doesn't make sense. This mayor claims to want to improve New Bedford Public Schools but he has no clue as to how to do it. He's actually contemplating hiring someone else's losers. An unbelievably stupid move on his part. Does it take rocket science to figure this out? They all come with heavy baggage and neither stay in one place for very long. Is this what the fool on a hill considers success. I see another severance package coming and we'll be the ones paying for it. The agents of change are false gods and the fool on a hill isn't wearing any clothes. We're all doomed as long as he's mayor.
2008: Dr. Fletcher said he watched the committee’s interview tapes three times and observed that not only were Dr. Bonner’s answers exemplary, but “as a person, to me, she is first-class.”
“She will be a national figure one day,” he said.
