Henry G. Bousquet CEC Councilor Ward Three: Innovations schools whiletheoretically a nice idea, will cause irreparable damage to our publiceducation system if implemented at this time.

March 23rd, 2013

Dr. Lawrence Finnerty, Vice Chair
New Bedford School Committee
and All Honorable Members
Paul Rodrigues Administration Building
455 County Street
New Bedford, Massachusetts 02740

Dear Vice Chairman Finnerty:

In the event that I am unable to speak at the hearing which is being held the same night as a scheduled City Council meeting, I’d like to ask that a short statement be read into record.

I, Henry Bousquet New Bedford Ward 3 City Councilor, would like to be recorded as opposed to the March 27th 2013 public hearing item:

Innovation Schools

Innovations schools while theoretically a nice idea, will cause irreparable damage to our public education system if implemented at this time. I am and always will be a proponent for experimenting with the education process. Providing additional study of languages, more physical education, sport programs, art, theatre, vocational programs, marine science and engineering will help our students become more dynamic and spark their interest to become lifelong learners.

However, it is only with broad implementation across the district can I support such an endeavor. All of our children deserve these opportunities and it is incumbent upon us as parents, leaders and educators to sacrifice now to provide those opportunities to every child of New Bedford to ensure a fruitful future. Not just those lucky enough to win the lottery.

Very Truly Yours,

Henry G. Bousquet CEC
Councilor Ward Three

Thank you Councilor Bousquet.

If the school committee votes to create these schools, they may as well cut all of our throats and gut the New Bedford School System.

Regardless if how this plays out we need to get jack pimento and Marlene pollard off the school committee.

Marlene Pollock wasn't at the School Committee meeting because she at another one of her fancy vacations. She's a real man of the people.

Thank you Councilor Bousquet!

These are not sound reasons to accept proposals but they are the only reasons being put forward:

- "give it a try"
- "union is bad"
- "another district did it"
- "UIA has big rallies"
-"40 politically connected folk like it"
-"Bob Unger likes it almost as much as he liked Bonner"

Maybe we should only vote on proposals when the law is actually followed?

Why would the School Committee want to follow the law; after all these schools have the full blessing of two members, that we know, of the School Committee, UIA, Education Roundtable, some community leaders, and, last but not least, the Standard-Times and Bob Unger. The law need not apply!

Pollock and Livramento were involved in the crafting of proposals being put before their committee. They should recuse themselves from any vote.

Thank you so much for your voice of reason. Education for ALL of our students!
