This vote proved the school committee has no cajones. I guess they don't want the change they say they want. I'm 50lbs overweight but when I look in the mirror I still see the younger me 50lbs lighter. I guess the school committee sees themselves with rose colored glasses like I do. I hope I'm wrong about Dr Durkin but she is by far the safest choice who will do the least to upset the status quo.
How much should the school committee set aside for the buyout?
Marlene and jack pimento figure they can manipulate her to endorse innovation schools. Who knows, maybe they cut a deal.
"Dr. Francis has been open and flexible: This has helped her bridge many divides," said Pollack. "She deserves our support."
Dr. Fletcher said he watched the committee’s interview tapes three times and observed that not only were Dr. Bonner’s answers exemplary, but “as a person, to me, she is first-class.”
“She will be a national figure one day,” he said.
"Pia Durkin, praised by the mayor as “exactly what this system needs,” is the School Committee's choice for the next superintendent of the city's public schools."
See you at the search in 2015....or better yet, i can't wait to watch Pia challenge and take down Mitchell. Can I buy my tickets now?
It is about time that the City of New Bedford allow our schools to be revamped.
We are in a mess because too many community activists and people who are not educated temselves make reckless comments. Most of thes schools need teacher and administration reviews. Merit pay for excellence would eliminate many problems.
I know many at the high school who are hoping for a change. We are sick of being blamed for all the education problems in NB and sick of our hands being tied when we try to do something about it. I would like to see an elimination of the school.committee members... if I recall, they were a major problem in the eyes of DESE review. Pollack and Livramento wouldn't have carte blanche if the State stepped in. Aren't we all supposed to follow state ethics laws?
