Will they have the courage?

Will the School Committee have the courage to vote against the innovation school proposals?

The Standard times reported that a petition signed by over 700 people opposed to these schools was presented to the school committee. Does the mayor know this? I ask because he didn't bother to show up for the public hearing Monday night. This would be the same public hearing he scheduled.

A shock that the standard times would endorse this nonsense! Not to me. Let's not forget the fact they ignore the failings if the Global Learning Charter School or any other Charter School.

If the school committee votes for these schools, we'll remember them on Election Day.

Will the mayor have the courage to stand up to the UIA? I think not.

I thought I saw him washing Craig's car the other day.

The Uia cult forever!

I am willing to participate in a movement to shorten the length of term for school committee members. Remember, Jack L. and Marlene P. are on board until 2016. 2016! Let them host empty fund raisers. Starve their coffers and ice them out at social events. They are NOT the change we are looking for.

Mitchell is so cool. He hasn't decided how he's going to vote. Really, I guess he'll know what to do the second before he votes. Now, that's a real leader!

Read in today's paper that Mayor Mitchell found the time to attend the rally by the supporters of the Innovation Schools; however, he made an excuse for leaving the first public hearing on the Innovation Schools about an hour before it ended and NEVER showed up for the second meeting. What a guy!!! He was the one who called the meeting and then he DOESN'T show up which indicates to me his lack of interest in what the public has to say.

Wait a minute, perhaps he was riding around with the chief of police analyzing his strategy for tackling the high crime and trash situation around the city.

Remember, when he ran, he said he was going to be the education Mayor and TOUGH ON CRIME. Now that the school vote is nearing, he must be focusing on his second issue.

Will they ignore the teachers at Gomes and Roosevelt? Yes they will.

Craig Dutra has been going around saying that the business community wants these innovation schools. That's great but I didn't know that Mr. Education Roundtable speaks for the business community. I own a business and that guy doesn't speak for me.

The members of the School Committee should, in my opinion, vote "NO" for these two innovation schools. When they ran for School Committee, a part of their platform was to provide a top quality education for ALL the students in the New Bedford Public Schools NOT just a handful of students. Why would they be willing to disregard the majority for a few? If they believe in catering to only a few, those members who vote in favor of these schools should NOT run for re-election as they clearly DON'T CARE ABOUT ALL STUDENTS.
