Why couldn't Pia and the SC agree to the 2PM? 1/2 an hour? This is union busting 101

Guess they put her in to deal with the longer day at the Level 4 schools.

$7,000 union busting? Are you kidding me?

The 7K was in place for last year...this new plan is for the KIDS to stay longer. The problem is going forward without an agreement. Working conditions and financial rewards are not the same. Only those in the extended day schools are getting paid for their efforts. The rest of us may be expected to do more without negotiations next. Get it?

2013/2014 School Year Preview:

-Bigger classes.

-Longer days.

-A contract with awful financial terms set to expire this year.

-Beware of the games that are set to be played with the new contract.

This is union busting at its best.

Ok so they teach longer with kids and get paid an extra $7000 with more time for specialists during the week instead of biweekly. This is a problem? Other districts have been doing this for years and not getting paid extra. Unbelievable!

Their using the excuse their giving them the music art and gym to make up their lost prep time Monday through Thursday and Friday planning time.,, but we all know that story of missed time if its on Mondays and missed time when the music art and gym are absent and then there's the lost time getting your classes to them and picking them up..elementary always gets screwed...Planning time in elementary is a joke,,,,,,administration doesn't,t give a crap if you get it..

Yes, OTHER districts HAVE been doing this for years. Every child needs more ART MUSIC PHYS ED! These 2 city schools had to test poorly to get what OTHER districts get on the regular. The teachers there were paid extra because that's what underperforming schools get before a state takeover. Ask the OTHER district teachers if they want to teach in ANY elementary school in NB. 7K would not lure them away from there DAILY planning, abundant resources, better tech, newer facilities, and fewer dysfunctional-poverty stricken families. Oh, and I forgot, they don't have to endure the DISRESPECT from folks like you, sir.(I'll assume you are a male with NO CLUE about the life of an elementary school teacher in this fine city)

It seems to me that the school committee has become a rubber stamp for Jon Mitchell. Since this is the case, why do we even have a school committee if they just blindly go along with this inept mayor's agenda?

Define inept:

without skill or aptitude for a particular task or assignment; maladroit: He is inept at mechanical tasks.

I agree with the previous post that the School Committee is just a rubber stamp for the Mayor. Level 4 School Committee. Just watch the School Committee meetings and judge for yourself.

Not one of them has ever answered or has a solution as to how to get the students and their parents to value an education, stop all the nonsense, seek extra help, and come to school ready and willing to learn and do the work. They just make excuses and accept the poor excuses.

When did a federal prosecutor become an educational expert?

Anonymous said...

I agree with the last post. Jon Mitchell doesn't know anything about education.

Anonymous said...

He so absurdly transparent, his kids went to private schools until he decided to run for mayor.

I don't think he knew much about being a federal prosecutor either. Crime is worse now then it was when he took office.

Two more years of this jokester mayor will run New Bedford into the ground.

Speaking of sending children to private schools ....no one should be teaching in a public school if they send their children to a private school. And that goes for the mayor and city officials also..if the schools arent good enough for your children then you don't deserve to be hired to teach in them.....or lead the city....

I chose to send my children to private Christian School. I wanted MY morals taught. (By the way, I do not live in New Bedford.) As long as I give 100% to teach the children entrusted to me, it is no one's business what I chose to decide for my children's education.
