A city is a great tree. A great tree is made of several parts. Roots. Branches. Leaves. Seeds.
The Roots are the parents and community that hold the tree up and support it.
The Branches are the different groups in the city that hold the leaves in the air.
The leaves are the students that absorb as much as they can to keep the tree alive.
The teachers are the rain, the sun, and carbon dioxide that feed the leaves.
But. Without roots and branches that support and draw nourishment from the soil and the rain, the great tree can never produce bountiful beautiful leaves to draw in the carbon dioxide and the sun. Without leaves that work their best, seeds of future trees are never sprouted. Soon. All we will have is a wasteland of stumps with plenty of rain, sun, and carbon dioxide, but nothing to take it in.
